MK5 Climatronic Panel
« on: November 25, 2010, 02:07:36 pm »
My MK5 has the Dual cimate control (climatronic) but due to me not taking care when I was last removing my stereo, I've scratched some of the buttons on the climate control panel (down to the white base).

I've been keeping my eye open on ebay and have just found one that seems to fit the bill, but the writing on one of the buttons is different to mine.

Mine has an "ECON" button, which when pressed, illuminates the LED and switches OFF the AC compressor. When the ECON light isn't lit, the AC is on.

The new unit has the word "AC" where mine had ECON. Does this mean the new units operate the other way around i.e when the AC is lit, I guess that menas Air Con is on, but when unlit, it's in ECON mode ??

Just want to make sure this will fit into my car (a 2005 BTW). VW already replaced the panel under warranty in 2007 and replaced it with the later style one with the DUAL button.

Anyone able to help ?

Edit,

Here are some photos. Firstly my Current Panel

And the new one I'm looking at

I would assume it was the same operation but the panel just illuminates in the opposite position, and it would therefore be fine in your car.  But these are just assumptions so I wouldn't stick my balls on the line!  :innocent:

I can confirm that the new version will fit and the wording is different.

I had exactly the same 'rubbed down to white' issue but luckily my VW dealer decided to give me the latest version free while in for another job. Don't ask! I dunno why people seem to take pity on me. Old git in a GTI who thinks he's still a young lad but is a real gent and perfect customer?

That was last winter. The new version hasn't shown any sign of wear, though I do cut my fingernails more often now

Andrew,

When I retro fitted heated seats in my car I had to put a new climatic panel in with the heated rollers.

The new panel I got from ebayde had an AC button instead of an ECON button like my old unit had.

I have had no problems at all using this unit and to be honest it makes more sense as when you press the AC button the AC is on rather than pressing to ECON button to turn the AC off

BUT my car has climatic NOT climatronic so I wouldnt put my life on it but Im pretty certain youd be ok.

The dual button is for when you want a different temp on either side. Without it illuminated both sides change temp simultaneously with the twist of the just one temp dial.

Sorry to bring up and old post, but have today fitted the same panel to my 2004 gt tdi with the ac on, cold air doesn't seem to be coming out from the vents, sound like its all being held behind the dash if that makes any sense, any idea's on how to resolve this?

Retry the original unit but resetting it with VCDS could be all what's required!

If you replaced an ECON with AC panel it may react odd and not work right.

When I put heated seats in my car and went from ECON to AC switches atbthe sane time, the aircon compressor would not activate. I know this happened to others too, if your old panel is working ok if you reinstall it, I'd say your new panel is to blame.
