Thanks Nigel! (A1)
« on: November 26, 2010, 03:31:14 pm »
At the risk of flooding this section with A1 recommendations (should we combine the threads into one?), I want to say a mahoosive thanks to Nigel and the boys at A1 Wheels.

Having already seen some of their work on the forum, and the review by Robin, I knew what to anticipate. True, the place is on a main road, with dodgy looking shacks and tyre piles everywhere. Their 'shop' is stacked full of alloy wheels in various designs and finishes, and the floor is littered with piles of unfinished (ie poor condition, not part-done!) alloys.

However, their hospitality is very good - free offers of drinks, welcoming attitude. Never once did I think that these guys didn't know what they were doing. The finish on my Pescaras was OEM. They were able to refit the tyres without causing damage, and able to refit the wheels without asking. I met another guy who also wanted to use them - he had previous positive experience after internet recommendations and was happy to return.

So it's a bit thumbs up for Nigel and co at A1 wheels!  :drinking:

Two things I learnt:
1. Nousey has them under his thumb. They won't tell me anything about his recent visit (and even then, it took much effort to cause them to slip that out).
2. Nousey is famous - he's known on other car forums including BMW ones!

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

No, this is in Wolverhampton. I had the whole lot done and wanted a specific finish. It depends on the rims, the damage, and the finish so it's best speaking to Nigel.

Always good to hear that someone who has been strongly recommended is living up to their reputation. Glad to know you're happy with Nigel's work, Jas  :happy2:

Are A1 still not on the internet (no web site)?

A1's 'car reception area' when I was there - It doesn't sound as if it has changed!:

They have had a 'tidy up' of that area Robin but they are still very much of yesteryear when it comes to such things as websites or any of that modern rubbish!

I have tried to drum it in to Nigel but while his Dad still runs the place not much will ever change there, which to the customers in the know about the place can only be a good thing I suppose!  :happy2:

Yes they may have a lot of difficulties coping if demand dramatically escalated as a result of cyberspace activity.

A1 are another example of how a family business can be successful in its own way. I actually visited two other well known wheel refurbishers and finishers and still chose A1. Thanks to your recommendation, Nath  :drinking:
