Recall on coil packs on 55 plate GTI
« on: December 06, 2010, 08:22:57 pm »
Just a quick heads up, when my GTI was in for a cambelt change 2 weeks ago, i was informed that there was a recall on "the ignition" please bring it back sir!

Well it went in end of last week and had four new coil packs FOC courtesy of VAG UK, was running perfectly before and still is after, but now has four shiny new coil packs.

So if you have any ignition problems, don't forget to check if you are on the recall list.

A little old lady's GTI probably caught fire in Tesco's car park somewhere.  :chicken: I can remember a couple of small fires on GTI's, due to coils.  :sad1:

The car is red, but don't think it is on fire (unless you see it behind you in the fast lane flashing its lights and indicating - )

No sorry no further details, the VW garage had my vin on their system and it just came up on their screen as needing changing, they didn't contact me, it came up when they were booking it in for the cambelt.

Good spot by VW especially since it is an import (RHD) from sweden!! I have however, had it registered on the VW UK database via the VIN when I first got it, helps with servicing, recalls and the like.

I suggest you phone your dealer with the VIN number / reg number and ask them to check, its work for them as VAG will pay them if it needs a recall.

If they are just doing it as cars come in for servicing then its not a proper recall as such so is unlikely to be on the vosa website.  Best bet would be to phone the dealer / VWCS.

Digging up an old thread here but I just had my car serviced today and they replaced my coil packs as part of this recall at the same time - The recall campaign number is 28F5 and my car is also on a 55 plate. Interesting recall this as I have been experiencing some ignition problems with may car over the past year that have become increasingly worse, particularly warm starting, for example, a couple of weeks ago it took me about 10 goes to start the car in Waitrose car park after nipping in for a bottle of wine. Not good. I have also had the exhaust system warning light appearing on the dash intermittently which has so far been unexplained by VW despite a few visits to the dealer and subsequent software updates. According to my dealer all of this is consistent with the problems they have been seeing with the coil packs as fitted to my car and this is the reason for the recall.

Mine is a 06 plate and was recalled - the garage cracked my engine cover in the process.
