Which would you say is faster.........
« on: December 15, 2010, 05:46:14 pm »
As per title I wondered if anyone has put to the test which is faster out of a stage 2+ S3 or and Edition 30!? I know an S3 could get power down better and more than likely handle better due to the Quattro but, which is faster!? have looked to see if this has been posted already but, couldnt find anything!

Cheers Guys,

Phil  :happy2:

+2  Nearly 100kgs lighter and less transmission losses..

S3 would take the 0-60, would be very close 0-100 and after that the Ed30 would be pulling a gap.. 1/4 mile times and terminals of the 2 are a good way of comparing too. S3 normally the slightly quicker time (manual vs manual - DSG vs S-Tronic), but the Ed30 has the quicker terminal speed (by about 3-4 mph). Suggesting the S3 would take the lead and ED30 starts to catch up and pass once up and running..

I ran against a couple of st2+ ED30's at inters and there really is nothing in it over the full qtr, 1 was Dan's, can't remember the other guy's name

Did I mention i won both, with big fancy wheels and a slipping clutch

and then got beat by TC  although I didn't get a time because I didn't reach 60 :sad1:

i ve had both s3 and ed30 but only stage 1 , both custom code (be quiet old schoolers  ) and  the s3 will leave the ed 30 quite easily due to traction , even at stage 1 the ed 30 struggles imo only down side to a great car  :happy2:

more than likely handle better due to the Quattro but, which is faster!?

S3 isnt quattro, Handling wise id say an Ed30 would be better than the S3, unless wet.

If your mates stage 2+ got embarassed by a standard S3 either
a)there is an issue with the ed30,
b)there was a big style loss of traction on the ed30(easily possible in this weather) or
c) your mate cant drive

My stage 2+ vRS was notably quicker than a standard S3, so a stage 2+ ed30 should and would normally annihilate it

the s3 is quattro well haldex , the ed 30 may be more nimble but the s3 is much more solid and sure footed , as standard the s3 power delivery is a bit strange but even stage 1 transforms it so s2 must be mental

haldex is not quattro.  Its predominently Fwd.  From what i gather its identical to VW 4motion which of course is also not quattro.

quattro is what you find on the on the A4 'quattro's, S4 RS4 etc which all use permenant 4wd and torsen centre diff

It is Quattro, it can drive all 4 wheels at the same time, just a different type of Quattro to the A4's etc, haldex vs torsen.

It must be quattro there is a badge on my glovebox which says so

The K1 was quicker 30-120 than another stage 2 plus s3.

On a smooth circuit id say the ed30 could very well be the better handler, out in the real world and the twisties you gotta give it to the s3

Correct, it can drive all wheels some of the time but it doesnt all of the time, because it is haldex and not quattro :P

quattro is permanent 4wd and cannot be any other way.  I used to have a GTI badge on my vRS, which made it faster  4hp iirc

who says Quattro is only Quattro if its all the time???

anyway is would be if it was really slippy all of the time

only pulling yer leg, I really don't a give a shhh, its very effective in anything less than perfect conditions, at the last trackday at Anglesey in the morning session things were a bit unpredictable and the S3 was smashin
