Another Cruise control retrofit question....
« on: December 28, 2010, 05:47:47 pm »
Hey guys,

I currently have an 04' Plate Mk5 Golf 1.9 TDI, it is the basic model so doesn't have any multifunction computers at all.

I've read all the different fitting guides on various different search engines etc and feel confident to fit it and run the required wire for the control module.

My question is; Will I need to change the control module on my car due to it being the basic model? I have the VW kit already with the stalk and wire etc, but wondered if I will need to change any other modules to make it work?

I already have a vag-com and I'm pretty happy with the coding side of things, but wondered if anyone had fitted a kit into this type of model of car?

VRSTU previously fitted a kit on Fabia VRS years ago, so thought he may also be able to shed some light?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Callum :happy2:

Hi
You will need to change the steering control unit
http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Steering_Wheel_Control_Module_Versions
best you look here to see what one you have

(I have a midline type 2 control unit and slip ring for sale)

You will need to remove the wipers to get to the E-Box
coding is easy, remember to code the Engine

Cheers for the help, how much you looking for the control unit? Would I need the slip ring as I don't have the MFSW?

Thanks again for the advice

Eddie,

Why did I always think you were based across the other side if the Irish sea?

Are you just over here for Xmas or permanently?

Cheers

Hi Andrew
You probably looked at my user name and thought that the NL bit was for Northern Ireland NI
The NL is for The Netherlands (Holland) as I'm half Dutch. I would like to go back and live in Holland but property is so expensive

Finally got round to fitting this today, took a bit  longer than expected with certain parts being a pain!!

Firstly the one windscreen wiper just really didn't want to come off, then the wiper motor was being a pain, then the wire for the top blue plug just really didn't want to go in!!! :fighting: But all was fine in the end, apart from a couple of issues if anyone can help?

I changed the controller and steering wheel ring, and managed to code the cruise control fine by:

Selecting 01 Engine
Login 11
Entered 11463 to activate (and this was fine and accepted)

My issues are that the cruise is still not working, and it's now coming up with a steering wheel and ESP fault?

Are there other parts I need to code in? Does the steering wheel ring need to be coded? I'm struggling a bit as my VAGCOM is the older version and I can only get into the Engine section of the ECU, I guess I might need a canbus connector to access the other areas?

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers

Callum

I see I need to change the coding on the steering control module, but guess I need a canbus vagcom to do this?

Anyone in the Gloucestershire area with one?

Yes you need to code 16 the Steering controller.  I assume yours is a TDi if you used 11463.  And yes you need at least a MicroCAN but a Hex+CAN is the better cable.  Try the registered users post in the VCDS area.

The other faults will likely because you'll need to carry out basic setting adaptations on the Steering and ABS controllers.
