Stage 1... on generic "cooking" petrol!
« on: December 30, 2010, 08:55:16 pm »
Just a quick one... (im sure its got a loooong answer though!

I do a LOT of miles and i cannot guarantee the quality of fuel i use. I try to use Tesco 99 or V-power if i can, its its impossible for me to run it exclusively.

If i were to get stage 1 map on my Edition... would it be ok to run it 50/50 on 95RON when i have to and better fuel when i can choose?

Rich

any tuner should be able to map your car for use with 95 ron fuel.  it just wont be a optimised.  then when you fill up with better fuel the ECU will adjust accordingly.

the problem would be the other way though.  If you remap to utilise higher octane fuel and then use poor grade 95 ron fuel, the car will b retarding timing to overcome it which isnt ideal.

As above, tell the tuner you tend to use 95-Ron instead of 98+ stuff instead.

Great... thanks for the info!

So i presume mapping to 95ron will give reduced output!

Even on the stock map, the engine produces less power with 95-ron. To get the 200bhp of a standard GTI you must use 98+Ron. Hence you'll get an improvement in bhp but it won't be as much as with 98+Ron.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Why not go Revo and get the sps switch, you can then have a high octane and a low octane map and just switch the map when required takes about 20 secs to do anyway  :happy2:
Or even put it back to standard If the missus has to drive it
