There was an issue on the fabia VRS running Ap's and not running a helper spring i think, it was causing the spring to turn at low speeds which would explain the clunk. If you maybe do a search on briskoda. Havent seen the set up on a mk5 though so couldnt be sure, but always worth a shout.

When I had a noise I got someone to move the car very slowly forward for me and I got down close2the car to see if I could locate the source! In the end some copper grease and a twist of a spring resloved it.

wasnt there another thread about this big al? i thought mk5's had steering column issues....mine def grinds at v slow or stop and i turn in....... perhaps dropping it makes the underlying issue show up more?
