Hi again,

I have done the update and got the success message. CD ejected and screen has now gone blank. Can I now start the engine and drive the car?!

Thankyou

Dave

If you got success screen and then blank screen that means its restarted. Just switch it back on.

I got my wife a 2009 Golf with RNS510 last week and typically I want to play around with everything  :innocent:  I scanned the forum on possible firmware upgrades, but I'm still a bit confused as to which version would fit my unit the best without taking too much of a risk.     I've got a B unit, currently running software version 0900.  What firmware options would be recommended?

Thank you very much
George

Thank you very much - I'll go have a look at 2760.  Stupid question, but how does all these versions relate to each other?  Are there some sort of logical link between those starting with 1, 2, 3 or 4?

Regards,
George

Some of the firmwares haven't been widely available and some are very similar example being 1300 is the same as 2800 but doesn't have support for voice control.

So, with the screenshot below.... what firmware should I be running?

I've seen 4020 somewhere else, with VideoInMotion built in, is this standard now?

Thoughts?

VIM isn't standard so it means someone has tinkered with the firmware.

Yes you could run 4020 on it :happy2:

do you have European POI databas?

Mine doesn't have EU POI's but i can certainly make one to work.

I would suggest first of all doing a soft reset of the unit by pressing these 3 buttons as they aren't always shown until you do. I had to this after the first time i installed them.

If that doesn't work then i suggest rebuilding the .DB3 file and ensure you are using the correct POI format. For the RNS they have to be .asc files.

Have you got the SD Card setup correctly?

Ensure the PersonalPOI folder is in the root of the card.

i.e. follow this

  • Format the card in FAT 32
  • Make a folder on the card called "PersonalPOI" (cut and paste between the quotes for the name as if it is not exact it won't work)
  • Move the .db3 file into that folder
  • Remove the SD card and place it in the Nav
  • Press Setup
  • In the setup menu select Navigation
  • You should now be able to select My points of Interest
  • Select import
  • Select import database
  • Once complete (5-10secs) select OK and remove SD Card
  • Soft reset the RNS as per the pic above
  • Now press "MAP" button
  • Select extras at the bottom of the screen
  • Select POI Selection
  • Your POI Categories will be at the end of the list
  • Select the ones you want displaying
  • Press ok once finished
  • Do one more soft reset to give it a kick up the hoop

Your POI's should now be displayed (as long as you are near one) :happy2:
