18" Monza vs Pescara
« on: January 24, 2011, 05:16:17 pm »
Am sure most people with an ED 30 will disagree but I think I prefer the 18" Monza to the Pescara. I think it comes down to always having loved a classic 5 spoke alloy and the Monza has to be one of the best 5 spokes ever.

Having said that I think some of the multi spoke designs in the wheel thread do look fantastic.

Does anyone else concur or am I to be hung, drawn and quartered at dawn for spouting such sacrilege!!

When I ordered my ED30 it was on the condition it came with the Black 'Detroit' wheels as these were the wheels fitted to the early press shots of the car and I didn't like the look of the Pescara at all!! Saying that the BBS VZ really works although it is a very similar design but it has a better offset that suits the car much better!

I love my Monza II's, however, I do think the Pescara looks great on the car as well. I've been torn on whether to get some CH's or Pescara's for the car as I really like the way it looks on Monza's.
Both would be great - along with an F1 pit crew to swap them around as i choose lol

I like the design of the Monza II's, but not their reputation for turning "wormy" :scared:

I like the Pescara design more though and have always liked multispoke alloys generally. BBS alloys just look so right! :happy2:

Pescara all the way for me.

The Monza II just looks far far too plain for me, that is just my opinion.

As for black monza's............. Not right at all.  The definition between the tyre and wheel is just not right.  all of course IMO.

Pescaras aren't a bad wheel, they just look a little dull and small next to monzas. It was quite a shock when I first saw a gti with 18" monzas, such a showy wheel on a understated car. I'm pretty sure looking back it was the alloys that made me want one. Wish I hadn't turned down a stunning deal on an edition 30 when they came out because I didn't like the wheels. Hey, edition 30 kit wasn't too expensive to fit and looks great with the monzas:)

I much prefered the Monza II to the Pescara, when Monzas catch the light they just look fantastic! The Pescaras are too dull and dont look special enough. If they were painted in the same silver as the VZ's they would be 100 times better.

I completely agree. The monza II looking stupendous at dusk. One used to go past my house at 5 PM everyday and it was this that made me by a GTI. Saying that i changed the Monza's after a few month's.

I always preferred the black Monzas on the ED30s, but they only look their best on certain colour cars.

The Pescaras would have looked much better in a brighter silver or a proper anthracite colour. That flat grey just takes away the BBS class.

I prefer the monza's or Huffs purely for its ease of cleaning  :ashamed:. Multispoke alloys are an absolute balls ache to keep clean. In Motion the Monza's also look the bussiness when rolling aswell :happy2:

Although later this year, am looking to purchase some new alloys, CH black editions on 19" or Talledega's from the R.

Agree with the comment on black alloys suiting certain colours better.

When i got my GTI 17'' monza alloys were the first thing that went for a set of edition 30 alloys.
Now owning an ED30 these wheels still look great to me. :happy2:
