Thanks. My opinion is that Nring is a must for all auto enthusiasts.

So... the mods continue:

Just arrived:

"poza4-1"

"poza2-4"

Thank you very much Mr DaveB!  :happy2:

What kind of discs are these?

ps:

"PAGID RS4-4 Orange Brake Pads

A Carbon based friction material developed from RS4-2 but with a progressively increasing friction curve, giving it lower friction than RS4-2 below 300°c and higher friction above 300°c. It offers slightly less initial bite and low temperature response than RS4-2, but with the same high levels of controllability.

Check listings for your vehicle

The wear rate of RS4-4 is very similar to RS4- 2, but is slightly better in terms of wear at higher temperatures. Disc wear as with all other PAGID materials is exceptional and thermal stressing and tension cracks of the disc surface are greatly reduced.

RS4-4 also has extended operating temperature limits, increasing fade resistance, and allowing braking deeper into the corner without wheel lock and fading issues.

This compound is available in fewer pad shapes than RS4-2, and is particularly popular in Porsche club racing, and has been fitted as an OEM on such high performance road vehicles as Porsche 993 RS and GT2 for example. In road applications this compound exhibits low brake noise.

A very versatile pad for use on both front and rear axles, is also a very good rear pad in conjunction with RS14 / RS15 on front axles of front wheel drive touring cars, etc.

Friction Level

    Cold    0.39    PAGID Brake Pads
    At 100°C    0.40
    At 300°C    0.43
    Max at (@ 600°C)    0.49
    Constant working temperature: 350 – 650°C
Max temperature for short period only: 700°C"

dmac1969 Thank you!

What kind of discs are these?

The discs are Brembo disks that DaveB machined to make the "J" hooks. They are said to be really great both on the track and on the road.
My guess is that it is a potent disk since the design is used in motorsport:

Haven't fitted the brakes yet so all I say is based on someone else's experience.

Well guys, I managed to install all the pieces...

The brakes are now installed and bedded in. I am using stock Brembo Porsche pads and the brakes stop really great.
I have done the bedding just like Pagid says (90mph to 50mph and 110mph to 50mph sessions) and the brakes stop incredibly well. The bedding in was done on a highway. I traveled for 40miles and 20 miles the road was wet (raining) and the other 20 miles the road was dry. The brakes and the tires never let me down. During my tests I never had the slightest fear that I will loose control (a great plus to Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric, I had the chance to test them on the wet previously but I am still amassed) and the stopping was incredible. I never got sick behind the steering well before these tests  :driver:

The 17 inch OEM Goal rims (7,5x17 ET50) barely fit the Porsche brakes. The space between the caliper and the rim spokes is less than 1mm. This is not safe. I am considering selling these rims (this is a pity because I really like these rims and they really look nice with the Porsche calipers) or installing a 10mm hubcentric spacer. Any ideas?

"P3136357"

"P3136358"

The 16 inch winter rims fit behind the Porsche brakes but need 20mm spacers (per side). The rims would normally only need 10mm of spacers but then the caliper does not clear the rim radially. I am hoping that 1-2mm is enough between the caliper and the rim (radially). Any thoughts are welcome.

"P3136368"

About the TT arms I can't say much... I will be able to make a review after a track day. What I feel now is that I lost a little bit on the "feel" of the car but I gained some more stability. My current settings are 2.15' negative camber and 0.04' toe out/per wheel.

"18032011139"

"18032011138"

"18032011137"

The TT bushings are a killer on the roads I am traveling. Much to rough for my taste.

"P3156376"

I got to test the car with a massive 6 degrees ToeOut and the car is was not driveable.
The setup below is just after I fitted the TT arms and before I made the geometry adjustments.

"16032011134"

Any thoughts are welcome.
Cheers!

1.
fine brakes, Rex !!  :congrats:

2.
Why toe out, Rex ???

I'd recommend 0°10' toe in per side on front and 0°5 on rear !!

3.
I don't felt any harshness when fittig S3 arms and bushings.

2. From my studies and experience I will reduce the understeer if I use toe out for the front. I will use toe in for the back just like you said (that is how it is currently).

3. Maybe the roads you are riding are better.

I know it's difficult beause everybody tells something different. ;)
I don't believe toe out on front will help, but maybe I'll give it a try again.
Usually more toe in improves initially turn in and in case of the Golf cornering grip as well.

On rear  toe out helps turn in, no doubt. But be careful, at high speeds toe out on rear
may cause dangerous situations. I never would adjust toe out on rear for street use.

ps:
no, roads here are the worst I know in Germany

You are correct...
That is why I want toe out on the front. I say that the initial turn in was reduced since then but the car is more stable. So I lost a little bit on the feel but gained stability.
I decided to go for toe out after reading a lot of things regarding wheel geometry and also a guy at Nurburgring called Teo (he has "Rent a RaceCar" company at Nurburgring) said that his rented GTI's have toe out and that improves the cornering speeds. I drove the GTI and it felt like it was on rails (my car was only slightly modified than so that is not a real comparison).
Yes, toe in is the way to go for normal usage. I would try some toe out but I do not want to make suspension geometry changes 10 times per year. Also I would not try it on Nurburgring.

P.S. I think the worst roads in Germany are better than the roads where I live.

Great car! It's feared by many!
Keep up the good work!  :happy2:
Thank you! If someone (anyone) fears my car it means I've done something right.  :drinking:

I think your absolutley crackers but well done anyways!!!
 I'll take that as a compliment  :drinking:
I would have really liked to have a 2.0 TFSI under the bonnet but when I bought the car I did not have the money and was more concerned about the MPG.
Now the priorities have changed and I don't care about MPG. I just want the car to be faster. It might have been more efficient to trade my car for a GTI and start modifying from there but this is my first car and I don't ever want to sell it.
I really agree this is a slow car but the engine will be la last thing I will change on this car. When there isn't anything left to do I will consider an engine swap. Till then I am stuck with 155bhp.

And to continue with the build thread, I am preparing for a trackday on the 25th of April. The Hungaroring F1 Track is opened for road cars and I intend to be there. Unfortunately the Hungarians planed this track day 2 days ago and it is the second day of Easter. I would have like to stay home but we all have to make sacrifices... So I will be spending the Easter away from home.
Because the track day was announced only 2 days ago I still have to do some things for the car to be ready for the Hungaroring trip:
- raise the back of the car (it is not good for performance because it increases the weight on the front, but esthetically I have to do this)
- install the Pagid Orange pads (installed them on Sunday)
- put the semislicks on the rims
- put the Motul RBF 660 brake fluid
- make another geometry setup in order to increase the camber on the back
- plus other small things
I will post some pictures in the near future.
Cheers
