Where does it fit tho ? I have some highlines to fit anyway
it fits into the back of the stereo, eg.         RADIO ~ EMFA harness (fits inbetween) ~ Original Radio wiring.

Not sure if anyone has tryed this before....

i tried that once Damo in my last 2 Vw`s but its a bit of chore to do everytime you get in the car, plus i needed a list of what channel means what  :signLOL:

Ive tried that Damo, some things seemed to display the right kind of information but oil temp just said 900 constantly didnt change and the car was cold.  Yeah it could be an expensive test although sure I can always sell it on, wont be in the next month or so as I have some other commitments.

@Robin, I would love something that showed both oil pressure and temp, but my main interest is to know when the car is fully warm and protected as the oil temp is correct and will be at the right viscosity to be doing its job.  Will also give me something to entertain me when driving other than the mpg figures  :rolleye:

Its a bit like the tyre monitor youve got I really want it as I like the real-time monitoring  just not sure where I would put it in the car to keep it looking OEM.....

How about one of these setups, as you can have it set to display oil pressure and temp on 1 display.  :happy2:

What an ugly gauge that is!

I like the adapter to change the Highline display as its inkeeping with the cars layout as it is. I'm also interested in seeing how long the oil takes to get up to temp and want to try that thing out above using the climate control to see what happens

....I tried it too. I'm glad it's not just me that found it tedious - I was worried it was just an age thing.

Highline is probably the only option I most regret not ticking.

Thanks for the suggestion Thor, they would do the job, really looking for something that reads off the car data as I dont want to be installing sensors in the engine/engine bay so off the OBD port or through internal canbus data, this is the other option ive considered but no oil pressure or temp as yet  :sad1:

Hi Robin,

You can retrofit a highline into your car quite easily  :happy2:

@Rich

You could do away with your skoda BT and fit fiscon, then you'll get the best of both.

I was going to get fiscon BT before the 729B because I wanted the extra boost info. After reading a few reviews it turned out the extra display was a bit unreliable and prone to crashing so I opted for the 729B.

Not sure if this was a derv thing or just the unit in general though.

....Really? Is there a How-To guide anywhere?

Not on my list of priorities and after 90k miles I've grown used the Midline's DSG gear display, but if I keep the car...

Yes its easy if you have the right software (which I have  ) and the correct dash insert for your car, yours being a 2005 is one of the easier ones to do as it doesnt mean a trip to the dealers or specialist. :happy2:

Have a read through this http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,18021.0.html

I would expect your car to have a 1K6 920 962 midline insert so you would need a 1K6 920 972 highline insert.

I have retrofitted the highline into my car and have done it for a few other too.

Oh just to add, you will still get your DSG gear indication on the highline  :happy2:

@ Lee:

I was gonna click ya a Thank You but there ain't none in this section  :sad1:

Yes, I know about the DSG display: Horizontal numerals and bigger in Highline; Vertical dis in Midline.

Have now read Stu's VCDS info. How tricky is it to physically swap? I'd have to go to a member of The Friendly To Females Garages (yes, they do exist!)

I can do it in about 15 mins.  Physically swapping the clocks takes 1 minute its the immobiliser coding and resetting the sensors that takes the extra time.

Most dealers run a mile when you ask for a dash swap but some will do it. Also some dealers will only fit a new dash which is costly around £350ish plus labour plus possibly a surcharge as your midline is not a like for like replacement. There are some specialists that will do it but your looking at roughly the same money.

You can pick them up used for between £80-£250 it really depends on how hard you hunt for one.

Going back to OP, I've fitted a DEFI oil pressure gauge to my car. I used that instead of an oil temp gauge as you can infer oil temp from oil pressure (through viscosity - pressure will be higher with cold thick oil and will decrease as the oil warms up and gets more fluid).
.

The location to install the sender (for either pressure or temperature) is behind the engine block, IIRC roughly above where the turbo is. Requires removal of the intake and any heatshield you may have fitted.
There's a banjobolt going through a union back there.

NewSouth sell a kit with a three-port banjobolt and two crush washers (one on either side of the union, so one on the banjobolt and the other up against the block).

Set of the install here.

I've seen cmdrfire's DEFI gauges and they look and operate very cool indeed. If I was starting again I'd go for his Defi installation.

I'll just stick with the oil temp gauge that I've already got for now as I've just been made redundant  :sad1:
