Is it the same in your dipstick?

Are you doing lots of short journies?

How old is the car and what is its mileage?

Don't worry, they all do that. Apparently caused by condensation but I'm sure someone can go in to more detail on why this happens.
It's caused by doing lots of short journeys so start dirving further  :grin:

not on the dip stick, most i drive is 7miles.

06 gti dsg stage 2+ 40,400

I do long runs to Brighton from Preston but at crimbo when i got there the mayo was still there...

no unnormal loss of oil

The reason i checked was im sure my held back in WOT last night in 3rd and 4th...

thats fine, mine was ALOT worse, but i was doing lots of short journeys.  i cleaned it all off, took it for an hours abuse to really get some heat into the engine and it never came back.  Its just condensation mixing with the oil.  usually  happens when the cars nbot getting warmed up on short journeys(always made worse by cold weather)

Was about to say the same as above. I checked my car at the weekend as i check all the levels every couple of weeks and mine was a lot worse. Checked everything else and all is fine. Took it for a gentle drive after cleaning it up, let it get warmed up properly then gave it a good blast to get everything thoroughly toasty. Done it a couple of times in the last few days and its all perfectly fine now.
I also do very short journeys regularly.... work is about 3 miles away, so coolant just about hits 90 by the time arrive, the oil from checking on VCDS is barely 50 from memory.

Its always worse in the winter because of the temps tho

I have a slight emulsification under my filler only appeared in the colder weather, mainly use the car for long journey but mid week it does 2-3 short journey to sainsburys and the gym.  If you have a thick layer you will need to wipe it away do a long run and see if it builds back up.  Think you only need to worry if the dipstick oil is milky all of which has been said before but heres a pic of my TFSI cream.  :sick:

To anyone who does lots of short journeys, I'd say get in some longer ones occasionally! The 2.0T FSI engine needs exercise, and think what fun you can have. You don't keep a good horse in the stable, you take him/her out and give free rein.

Mine did exactly this back in the winter of 2009, I cleaned the cap weekly for about 3 months and once the weather warmed up it has never done it again. I only drive my car on long journeys so all I can think is that once some condensation has got in there it takes a while to dry it all out again.

I found this yesterday on mine for the first time in the 2 1/2 years I've had it after a trip up to the lakes, never had it in my last 2 TFSI's either, but I'm not overly concerned :happy2:

What oil is in there? Last change?

Not enough long journeys or oil temp up to working temps will factor as has been said already.
