2006 Tornado Red 3dr - 3 years on
« on: January 30, 2011, 07:29:49 pm »
Hey guys, it’s about time I got a thread up of my own on here!

I’m practically a daily reader on here and have had my MkV for over six months, covering over 7,000 faultless miles so far.

The car is a Nov. 06 car, with:

18’’ Monza’s
RCD 500 (6 disc in dash changer)
Centre Armrest
Rear parking sensors

Since I got the car in August, I have:

Sprayed the hubs a grey colour to match the inside of the monzas
Repainted the brake calipers
Fitted GTI seat inlays
S2000 Stubby Aerial
Installed LED interior lights and number plate lights
Upgraded the headlight and sidelight bulbs
Fitted genuine open fog grills
Fitted my Parrot 3200LS in the cubby box under the light switch, and lined in felt
Fitted two new Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta’s to the front
Treated it to its 40,000 mile service

In the process of fitting an RNS510 courtesy of Darren (trying to source a new can gateway as well) and hopefully fit an MDI interface this month.

In the next year or so I plan to fit lowering springs and spacers, possibly change the rear lights for R32 versions and just keep it clean and tidy!

Enjoy,

Ashley.

Second fastest!
Looks great in those pics, a very nice tidy example, and for once a red GTI that doesn't look pink

Thanks for the comments folks!

Have ordered a new can gateway, MDI interface and more interior LEDs.
Hopefully get it all fitted and coded next weekend.

I've been driving without a stereo for a few weeks now, but just a better excuse to cruise about with the windows down! And enjoy the soundtrack!

Got my RNS510 in and definately glad I spent the money on it :happy2:

Had to replace and recode my gateway, which was a bit of a challenge! My gateway was located right at the firewall behind the headlight switch and relay boxes. Within arms reach.... just! Of course after I replaced it with the new one and recoded everything, I found this link (hopefully helpfull for people who are going to replace their gateway in the future):

http://www.r32oc.com/tutorials-guides/30166-canbus-gateway-location-removal.html

Probably would have been a bit easier this way, and saved removing all the dash parts!

Also got my MDI interface fitted. I gave up on using the standard OEM retrofit loom, because I had the parrot loom and adapter already there, the OEM loom just didn't want to reach to the right places. So I ordered the Kufatec MDI loom, and had it done in under 15 minutes!  I fitted the MDI unit behind the ashtray and cable tied and velcroed it in place. I have run the cable for the iPod connection down the centre consol, and pulled it out between the passenger seat and handbrake.

I use my iPhone in the MDI connection, so this way I don’t forget to lift it when I leave the car!

My Parrot kit location.

I also just got 2 new vredesteins fitted, and the car handles like it is on rails agin

Great example

Thanks mate!

Has a few things that niggle me, but hopefully I'll have them sorted by the summer

Just ordered a revision D DV so plan to fit that when I get a bit of time off work this month.
Thinking about buing a WALK kit as well.

very nice TR 3dr you have there. I only have a 4dr TR. so loving the colour.

It's the first mk5 TR that I really like the Monza's on. Need to try and find a set over here thou is proving to be extremely difficult.

Overall I like where your car is going. Keep up the great work.
It appears like Darren is just about worked on most of the MK5 forum's car. Clever guy he is.

Thanks!

I'm on this forum most days, but it's been nearly two years since I uploaded pictures!
As you'll see from my sig, I've done a bit more since.

I'll have to pull my finger out and get some new pics up!

Well... I'm terrible at posting and not great at taking photos of my motor.
But I reckoned I should update this thread, saying as it's nearly 3 years of ownership.

The car now currently has all the mods as detailed in my signature, its about to hit 85,000 miles and I have thought about trading it in for Mk6 GTI/GTD on countless occasions!
It still does my job perfectly and for the cost to change and get into a Mk6 I am happy to keep for now.

The high miles haven't altered the way it performs, other than the shocks may need replaced shortly. So I'm thinking of fitting Mk6 GTI Bilstein B8 dampers to pair with the sport lines, and so if i do jump into a Mk6 - I can take them with me!

Anyway some photos from a few months ago (the fogs only had yellow laminx on over winter - back to normal now, which I prefer):

Its good to see more and more Northern Irish cars popping up on the forum :)

I've done over 50,000 miles in 3 years and other than servicing it and replacing the PCV (which went all of a sudden on the motorway one day) it's been flawless!
