R32/S3 Calipers Rebuilt

Just rebuilt these myself, not cheap or easy but had them powder coated in RAL3002 which i found is very close to OEM. These were from an R32.... i have replaced the following:new metal brake line pipes,bleed nipples,springs,seals and mounting bracket retaining bolts

Are you sure they are R32 calipers as mine seperated from the piston?

They are R32/S3 Rears.

Cracking job there looks good, I had a set that I sold but wanted to go the same route but didn't know where to start as my local vw garage said it couldn't be done, but then they said there now way you can fit front r32 brakes to a Ed30 - Turkeys!

Will be doing this myself soon - did you find a good 'one stop shop' for the springs, seals and mounting bracket retaining bolts or just get them from the local dealer?

Nice job, in fact very nice job. Rears are bloody tricky to get back together, the bits and pieces to assemble them such as the M12-M10 connecting hard pipe is about 15 quid with the VAT, the seals are a fortune from the stealers but are available aftermarket if anybody wants to take it on. The VAG seals come with a wetting agent to soak them in but brake fluid for an hour or two works just as well.

The other problem with doing these as a one off is the price of the VAG lithium grease for reassembly, it like buying a tube of toothpaste for £30 and cleaning your teeth once!

Red S3 rears are very definitely gucci at the moment - been asked for loads recently.

If I get a chance I'll get a "how to" done on the rears once and for all as they are not easy to do and if anybody felt like they wanted to give it a try it would be a good help.

A 'How-to' would be very welcome indeed, Dave.

I have a set purchased from SteveP sitting in my garage. The powdercoating was completely loose on one due to the dusty corrosion underneat (I could pick most of the coating off!) but intact on the other and the carriers so I am about to attack them with wire brushes etc. Otherwise dust boots etc. look good.

Are you well and truly out of the refurb'ing business, Dave? Congratulations to you and Mrs Brown btw!  :wink:
