A question for people with colour coded cars

Did you leave the standard mottled black plastic on or did you get r32 skirts which are smooth? I've taken my car in to be colour coded with the standard mottled plastic on. The guy says he will try his best to build it up and get a smooth finish but he says it might still be mottled. If that makes any sense. Cheers

I know what you mean,my friendly(???) local Vw bodyshop came out with that too,basically they were not interested in doing the job.
However if you get someone who is prepared to put in the effort and do the proper preparation,you shoild get a good smooth finish.
I cheated and bought R32 sides and an Ed30 bumper!!!

Thanks mate. What is proper prep? I just really hope it doesn't come back with the mottling showing through because that will look rubbish.

you can either smooth/sand them down or put lots of layers of primer on them then smooth the primer, but that way will chip alot easier.

Thanks for your replies guys. I've rang him and said that people who have had it done before have had the plastics sanded before spraying rather than being built up.

I just know this is gonna end in tears and I'll regret getting it done! Oh well my splitter will look good because it's an edition 30 one and at least that's smooth!

id never build it up personally, but some muppets will do. 

at the OP, why not just do it yourself then take it to get painted.

Unfortunately it's in the bodyshop now and I'm away now until I pick it up next Wednesday! I'm glad I asked you guys though because at least I've got in touch with him and said it needs sanding. If it's not up to scratch I'll just have to bite the bullet and get it done somewhere else. After asking for at least some money knocking off!

It just takes a lot more prep, where are you based? Perhaps someone will recommend someone,...if you are anywhere near Glasgow, touch ups in Polmadie are excellent.

Just got my side skirts and valance back for the tractor 

Had them smoothed and sprayed and they look 100% . As others have said you can get them perfect its just more work 

Still much cheaper than buying the ED30/R32 ones!!
