RCD 510 or MFD2
« on: March 29, 2011, 04:32:45 pm »
Just about to buy an early GT TDI (04 or 05) and would like to install a new stereo.

Apparently with the MFD2 its just plug & play, but with the RCD-510, its more complicated.

Looking for recommendations on the best option and the hassle involved with fitting an rCD510.

Thanks

RCD is more complicated because of potential battery drain issue associated with the upgrade from 2nd generation stereo to a third generation stereo.  You need to ensure a new enough can gateway.

MFD2 is second generation and will work in any MK5.

So it depends how far down the rabbit hole you want to go alice......

5Dr Black GTI, DSG, Leather, Xenons. Retrofitted - Cruise, RNS 510, MFSW, Armrest, Skoda BT, 6cd changer, Monza II's, VW speaker upgrade kit, Lux pack, High-line, new CAN gateway, Polar FIS info display, R32 tinted rear lights, RVC

To Come...NQSBBK, highline CCM.

Hi Richin83

Thanks for the reply. I may go for the simpler method to start off.

I see that you're selling an MFD2 on the classifieds.

Once I get to 25 posts I may be interested in making you an offer (if its still available)
