Car Buying Advice

Hi fellow forumers, I hope you're all enjoying the lovely sunshine!

I was hoping for some ideas - my brother is 19 and has a Saxo VTR (he's not a chav!) but is looking for something... better.

Obviously he'll need to take into account insurance, as most of what he'd like is way out of the picture, with prices like £5000 (ridiculous).

He's got a budget of... well, up to £10k shall we say, although the £7k mark is probs more realistic.

He wants something with good performance and good looks too. He likes Japanese cars (for some reason) and really liked the RX8 but I think the insurance was too expensive, and it only does something like 22mpg.

I've said to maybe look at a mk1 TT, or a BMW 320 Coupe...  But he "doesn't like them enough".

He liked the Civic Type R too but insurance was so costly...

I don't know what else there could be... Any other ideas? (except any Golfs - he doesn't want what I had!)

You dont get much better than these IMO.  loads available from 7-10k, great specs, residuals, performance and handling.

You can also pick up Octavia vRS TFSIs, Leon Fr TFSIs etc for 7-10k now, so excellent base chassis and engines to start modding from.

Cooper S's are brilliant but the fuel economy is poor and it would be very hard to live with everyday as the ride is very hard which may not seem that big but it's annoying when you're not in the mood for it.

i was achieved 30+mpg pretty much all the time provided i wasnt booting it.  it was cheaper on fuel than my octavia was to drive all the way from germany to plymouth
