Carbon fibre roof??
« on: April 08, 2011, 02:51:55 pm »
Hi guys, im on the hunt for a gti and ive come across one with a carbon fibre roof. My question is there any advantages/disadvantages of having a carbon fibre roof. Are they more desirable for some reason?

Thanks in advance for any replies

Are you sure its not carbon wrapped? The roofs on the golfs are integrated into the chassis unless im wrong?

Must be a wrap job, unless someone has spent a lot of money on it.

Not sure, thats all it says in the ad is that its a gti special edition with carbon roof and parts? Just tried phoning for more info but there was no answer. Its a private sale on autotrader. Im thinking it could be more hassle than its worth when it comes to cleaning!

Whats the point of a wrap? Must be just aesthetics?

Thanks for the quick responses

Aye just aesthetics - wrapping offers no weight loss etc

Looks like 3M DiNoc Carbon Fibre effect wrap as its a matt finish. Looking at the car, its almost standard otherwise so id be very surprised if that was a real CF roof.

Is it me or is that quite cheap or did I pay way over the odds for my 54 plate 60K GT TDi at £6,500

Lower mileage GT TDIs often go for good money as its a reasonably sought after engine for economy and power delivery

I think the gti's are coming down a bit now due to petrol increases. I just sold my trusty old mk4 gt tdi for 400 quid less than i paid for it 2 years ago! Diesel's definitely hold their price better.

That maybe the case but this one does seem on the cheaper side especially with leather/sat nav.

As mentioned above definitely not a real carbon fibre roof.

That was only a CF layer on top of the existing roof AFAIK.........
