DSG Mechatronics

Hi,

I'm pretty sure I have the common problem with the mechatronics unit in my car - it's fine when cold but when warm it can kangaroo in first/reverse and seems like it engages the clutch too late when coming to a stop. Does this sound to you like the unit will need to be replaced?

The car is a November 2007 with 60k and a DSG gearbox oil change/service was done recently.

How does this issue stand with VW at the moment? Can it be fixed under a warranty?

The issue of mechatronics with VW UK is that generally, unless its still within its warranty period, they will only (in some cases) offer a goodwill contribution towards the cost of repair

Its a shame VW have not honoured the 10 yr warranty that Volkswagen America have offered on DSG boxes

Thanks; it looks like it may have to be an expensive fix then! 

How have people got this goodwill contribution and how much would VW give?

I have a RAC Warranty which came with the car and runs out in a month or so, but it looks like it only covers up to £500 so may not even be worth more than the paper it's written on!

A dealer would have to inspect it, then the case is put to the warranty department who will say yay or nay, though if they say nav, VW UK customer services can overrule and contribute instead.

Often its around 50% which is about £700 ish less

You have a couple of options try and use the 500 RAC one in conjunction with VW's good will. or take out another extended warranty and notice it kangarooing in a month or so. I believe British lion had a after market policy and his mech unit failed.

Not a common problem apparently.

Get into VW Customer services, and lay on the Full Serviced by them, to their regime, and the USA warranty, and I think you may get a result.

id just take out an aftermarket warrenty, and find the problem in a few weeks, cost is around 300 quid for the year, so would be cheeper to do this rather than have vw pay half, and itl stop you having to faf about with vw cus services

Hi the OP syptoms are exactly what our DSG was doing,The local VW garage reset the software and then said nothing has changed it requires a Mechatronics unit,it was replaced under warranty but I was given a copy off the invoice £980 ,,

The Mechatronics unit took about 10 days to arrive from Germany ?? but the car was usable and it has now transformed the car its so smooth possibly the best auto box I have driven way better than my Merc .Its on par with my BMW for smooth changes .

Sorry to hear your bad news but once sorted its a brilliant bit off kit

Is it the VW Extended Warranty you're referring to? Just realised it'll be the Used Car Warranty I'd need, but the terms say a max of £1k limit per claim?

Would they charge just to test and reset it?

I did read on another forum that there is a 'goodwill matrix' depending on the age of the vehicle of basically up to 4 years at 100% and then up to 5 years at 60-80%. Is this correct?

I have literally just had this problem with my edition 30 2007. I took it to VW and they diagnosed the mechatronic problem. I then phoned my warranty company Motorway Direct and they confirme dhtta it was covered and have since paid the full 1236 fee :-)
