No sound when phone preparation takes or sends calls.

You may be able to help me! I have a 2008 Passat 2.0 tdi with ths problem: Car recognises my phone OK but when I make or receive a call even though the radio shows PHONE and the volume bar shows full volume I have no sound – only a slight hissing noise.

Looks like the wiring has become disconnected for the Tel + and Tel - leads. What headunit and what phone prep?

Head Unit is RCD 500 and Premium Bluetooth Preparation.

No, Logic Automotive is not my Company, I just went there for the Scan and forgot to delete the name.

It appears that the installation is a Retrofit as the cover on the BT under the Driver's seat is a different colour from the trim in the car.

It was in the car when I got it - even has a popup key pad on LHS of hazard flasher switch and phone cradle in centre console.

Two possibilities for it not working:

1. Connections broken
2. CAN gateway needs upgrading as the standard one may not be able to cope with the addition of the phone preparation.

If you have the popout keypad then it's likely the car would have been fitted with a phone kit from new but it would have been the less useful rSAP type.

Highly unlikely to be a Gateway issue IMHO, that appears to be fine.

Connections should be checked, I'd start by having a look behind the radio.  Previous owner may have had an RNS510 or something in and swapped out prior to selling.

rSAP suits me fine - I'm not into apps and iPhones. I don't think previous owner would have replaced RCD 500. All the answers I have had in the past few weeks point to a connection problem, so I will get my phone man to have a look and let you know how it goes.
