Its the Throttle Body :(
« on: May 09, 2011, 01:17:23 pm »
Not sure if you remember, a few months back I posted a thread about some running/limp mode issues I was experiencing with my GT FSi.

Got the coil pack changed as they were on the recall list, but this made no difference and it still keeps going in Limp Mode.

Took it back to VW for diagnostics, and it was confirmed it was the Throttle Body. Rare for one to go, but it has, and they quoted £700 to replace!!
Spoke to my good VW/Audi specialist garage and he quoted £450 to replace.

I have found one for sale, brand new for £150. How easy is it to replace these? Is there an guide on the internet I could print off and use? Do they need aligning?

Cheers

Lx

Don't know how difficult it is to replace but why not buy the item and let your  VW/Audi specialist garage install it. Shouldn't be more than two hours labour at maximum.

And yes, after install you have to align it with vcds.
Without traction power is nothing!

Thats what I was going to (buy the part and give to garage to fit) but my other half wanted to see how difficult it was to fit. I thought as much regarding the aligning, this is what worried me.

Thanks for the info!!

I suspect she's wanting to wear the supervisor's cap while you do all the hard work.

HE can get his hands dirty doing it!! And I will be wearing the supervisors hat! I have just had my nails manicured... I don't fancy getting engine grease over them HEE HEE!

(only kidding, unlike some girls, I don't mind getting my hands dirty!!)

No more than an hour max to fit inc a sit down and a cuppa.  Its really only 4 bolts and a hose to remove then refit.
