Buckled wheels!
« on: May 19, 2011, 05:50:22 pm »
Car went in to powdercoaters on monday to have the wheels done black.
Came back needing balanced so had my girlfriends dad take it to be balanced today.
Came back saying two of my alloys are buckled. Were perfect before going in on monday, could the powdercoating have affected this?

I wouldn't of thought the act of powder coating would of buckled them but I know some of the 'cheaper' powder coaters near me strip the wheels in furnace as opposed to chemicaly stripping them.

Maybe this is the cause? I'd call them and ask how they stripped them.

Can i ask how you knew they were not bucked when you took them in ?, and did you notice they where buckled after picking them up from the powdercoaters before taking to the balancing place ?

The steering wheel wobble. Never had any wobble at all even at high speeds.
It was hellish when i left the powdercoaters wobbling at 30-40 mph. Not as bad now but can still feel it at 60mph.

Perhaps the buckled wheels/s was on the back before powdercoating and now its on the front ?

The buckled wheels are both on the back now.
Just a coincidence that it's happened just after having them powdercoated.

Have the weights fallin off, and just needs re- balancing?.

Wheels most proberly are on different sides of the car origonally. Exact thing happened to mine when they were sprayed Blue back in the day :happy2:

My girlfriends dad (mechanic). He said you could see the buckle when it was on the balancing machine.

id re-check those new weights, mine were replaced and were out by 100 lbs, when rechecked by another wheel balance centre.

Perhaps your old wheels were buckled previous, and fitted to the rear and not the fronts, hense why you can now notice?
