Software update problems
« on: May 21, 2011, 01:45:37 pm »
Basically my Columbus started as a 2684, then was upgraded to 2724 before I got it.

I retro fitted a MFSW and am in the process of installing a fix to make it work with maxidot and MFSW.

A chap on briskoda kindly sent the CDR disc (which originated from vRSstu I believe). I put it in, and after having to press setup, eject and mic it eventually got underway.

I left it going for a while and came out to check process there and the disc was ejected and it says SWL error, error description. Then in small writing it says about putting it on a different media etc.

I put the disc in again and it was at 43%, but it ejected straight away and the same thing displayed.

Now I'm too afraid to even breathe incase I brick it etc. What's the craic, is this an easy solution?

The radio just displays; "software download- source activated, searching for SWL image" all the time, even when driving and when the car is off and key out.

An I going to have to disconnect the unit tonight?!

Sounds like the disc is dodgy. You may need to use the SWL recovery disc and reflash a working software

Is it a B or a C?

If I put the disc back in it allows me to go through the whole procedure again and starts at 26%. But then when I cone back to the car it says the same error.

Would it be worth trying the file on a different disk? Could it be as simple as that?

I assume the recovery file I need to try if all else fails is the 1 at the top of this link?

Id try a different software all together - if its a C id personally take it to 3970. I run that on mine and it works perfectly

LOL, I literally have no idea! I'm in over my head!

Just tried the 2760 but anytime I put it in, it just kept coming back out.

Lol, I thought it had! Mikeholroyd.

Well, the file anyway. Perhaps he just meant it was passed from member to member. I just meant at least it's a genuine source, so I know the file isn't the problem.

Anyway, I download both the fix itself and then the recovery, but neither are being taken by the Columbus. It just shows the Skoda start up screen with the red strips top and bottom stating the system is not able to start up and please insert SWL cd.  I've tried pushing eject, mic and set up but nothing happens. Just keeps taking the disk in and firing it out!

For the recovery, is it literally just 1 nrg file?

The NRG is a disk image and needs to be burnt to the disc properly btw

Ah right. How? Not just a case of copying to disc!?

Are you using decent disks?  Verbatim are the best IMHO.

I found some Maxell there, so just using them!

How do I burn the nrg file properly?

I apologise for my ignorance, I know this is probably basic stuff but it's beyond me!
