New mk5 owner, few questions
« on: May 22, 2011, 08:39:02 am »
Hi guys,

Bought myself a mk5 gt140 diesel and i'm starting to go through it to sort a few things out. Any advice on any of this below will be much appreciated

Rattle or squeak sounds like its from bottom of windscreen area. Though anti roll bar links at first but it almost sounds like a dry rubber type sound? Checked arb links and removed screen trim to check suspension top mounts, nothing obvious.

The car has rns 510 (I was told it was this one)  apparently when this was fitted and coded?? the cruise stopped working? would this sort of thing happen?

Is there a step by step guide for newbee's to check the unit and update it to the latest map or software?

There is a rattle from what appears to be flywheel area, comes and goes. I have read about problems with dmf and a possible recall. Is there anywhere which lists the affected range so I can see if mine has had, or needs this?

I know it's not a gti but you chaps seem to know what's what

Cheers

There's a guide re: rns firware and map updates. Have a little look around.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Sorry, just found it, right at the top too  :ashamed:

How do I check what's on the unit itself? Total novice here on this sort of thing

Cheers

If it's activated, via the secret menu. Press and hold setup. If it doesn't change past the radio screen, you'll need to have it activated by someone with vcds.

just tried it, comes up with radio service screen and 3 choices, fm am and dab

Thanks

Yup. Like I said you need to find someone wih vcds. I don't know if there's another way to check the versions.

In all probability, you're unlikely to have the latet firmware and maps so you may as well go ahead and upgrade. The only issue is the canbus gateway drain which would depend on when your car was built. Do a search for this problem!
