OEM LED number plate bulbs fitted with pictures
« on: May 28, 2011, 05:55:06 pm »
Following on from this thread http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,26833.0.html I decided
to try the OEM LED number plate bulbs (after reading a number of German forums pages).

Sourced from http://www.vw-audi-Shop.com but you can visit any VW dealer or http://www.thetradepartsspecialists.co.uk
cost will be around £25.00 for each unit.

  • Remove the old units, there is a plastic tab nearest each wing, I used one thin screwdriver to hold this in and another to lever out the unit
  • There is another tab holding the connector in place, again I used a small screwdriver to un-clip the tab
  • Fit the new unit and click back into place

There is no bulb out warning in my 2006 car (possibly a silent VCDS warning but I can live with that as I dont even have a reader!)

These are standard on the German Golf Style and the 2012 Mark6 GTI, see http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=190980.0
so now you can stay in fashion with the MK6 and any BMW friends you have!

I'll try and add some pictures when it's dark during this weekend.

That looks really good! great thread with pictures.

I have just ordered some replacement bulbs for the old holders as was reluctant to part with so much money. Would be interested to see how they look in the dark, to see how they light the number plate itself.

These look great and a nice mod - bit pricey though at £50 a set.

Cheers Shaun. A definite improvement.  :happy2:

The new units just clip in as well? No screws?

Might have to invest in some. Love all the OEM mods you have done on your Rocco R already.

Yep, if you're on http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk you can see some instructions in one of the sub forums.

It's all relative, I've been looking at the MK6 door switches http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,29345.0.html and think they're a bit expensive
