Central Locking issue?!
« on: June 05, 2011, 09:41:18 pm »
Hi,

I have done a quick search to find anything that relates to this central locking problem - no luck tho.

Its a 5dr GTi.  In the last week or so the central locking button on the driver side door has been playing up - it'll lock the doors but not open them!
The car is programmed to automatically lock when it sets into motion and when the car stops and the key is removed from the iginition the doors should automatically open - BUT they now do NOT!

Anyone had the same/simliar issue - any advice?!

I bought the car with an 18month warranty - so if anything needs work I hope to get it covered under that.  I hope!

I would take it back to where you bought it from and let them sort it out under the warranty.
Without traction power is nothing!

Can you use the button on the inside of the drivers door to unlock the doors and get out? Does this require a few attempts?

My central locking actuator went in the drivers door - it started temporamental needing 2 or 3 attempts to unlock and be able to open the door (from both the remote outside the car, and the button on the inside of the car), but it got worse. If it is this - the part is just over £200 fitted at an Indie, but it was covered under my aftermarket warranty so should be the same for others.

If they weren't a 2hr drive away and I've been there in a flash.. !

Can you use the button on the inside of the drivers door to unlock the doors and get out? Does this require a few attempts? It will only unlock the drivers door, and none of the others! I did take a few attempts to get them opened but it doesnt work at all now -  unless the engine is off but key in the ingnition?! Very strange.

Mine was just not unlocking the drivers door (it's a 3dr), locking was ok.  Listening to each door unlock on the remote, I could hear that the drivers door didn't sound right - like something wasn't quite 'clunking'.

Garage diagnosed it as the lock actuator in the drivers door (the part is literally the size of a brick!). Is your warranty with VW, the garage you bought it off or a 3rd party? If its VW approved used warranty I'm pretty sure you can take it to any VW dealer, if its 3rd party - call them, their usual only condition is the labour rate (c.£40/hr cap) so you can take it to most independent garages
