a rather broken mount part, cant tell what it is
« on: June 06, 2011, 12:18:37 pm »
I posted up not long ago with a video showing this loud squeak that my car made whenever you operated the clutch or let off on acceleration.

Decided to investigate and had a peek under the car. If you rocked the engine from the front you could hear the noise on the right hand side near the battery tray. I expected it to be the transmission mount, appears I'm wrong.

I couldn't get the right viewing angle on the part number :( Basically it looks like a big cast piece of metal and the mount goes on top.

My issue was, one bolt was loose, one was snapped, the other bolt was in but it had a chunk of metal missing below it. IE the bolt was held in by a semicircle above, then the bottom half was gone so I could see the thread on the bolt.

This is on a TDI but any guess at what that part is would help. If any of those bolts become loose or snap I've probably lost my engine :(

Looks like the gearbox mount to me.  I will have a look on Etka, to see what VW call it.

Right if you are on about the part with the lettering on, it is called a console, and as far as I can glean from etka, it is basically an adapter between the Gear box and the transmission mount.

Retails about £35 ish, plus a few bolts.  Best thing to do as there are several models, is to call your VW dealer or TPS and give them your vin, give them the diagram number of 199-30 item 19.  (part number is 1K0 199 111 or 117 then 2 letters dependent on model)

The bolts are one shot only use too.

HTH.

The above is based on a 2006 Golf TDi, should give you a good starting point.

I can't thank you enough for that. I was struggling everywhere to find out what on earth it was and getting my eyes on that number was hard. REALLY appreciate it.
