Lumpy idle and hesitation when cold
« on: June 08, 2011, 04:53:47 pm »
I've had a mooch round and I can't see anything that sounds similar, so here goes my problem..

When starting from cold the idle is a little lumpy, and on the road there is a fair bit of hesitation at low rpm. But once she's warmed up all seems ok. There are no warning lights (assuming dodgy coils would generate one!)

Any suggestions appreciated. Car is MY07 MkV GTI.

Thank you :-)

My car used to run a bit lumpy/misfire a bit at (cold start) idle too until the coil packs were replaced.

My car is feels hesitant to go on initial drive too. This goes away with a quarter of a mile or so. I always drive the car gently until it's fully warmed up anyway. Don't think there's anything wrong with it.

How much mileage do you have on your present set of plugs?
If you don't have access to vcds to check your misfire counter then I would start by changing the plugs.
Without traction power is nothing!

Cheers Bacillus,

Have only just bought the car so unsure of the mileage on the current plugs. Phoned VW yesterday to see if mine was required for the coil recall, but no luck! Car has done almost 80k so will get a nice set of new plugs, failing that I'll get the coils done.

have you tried replacing your pcv valve? Would give you symptoms of poor idling? Tis a weak component on the TFSI.

Although saying that, if it idles smooth when warm, it's doubtfull ?

Sorry Steve, what's a PCV valve?!

I'm only a few days into GTI ownership, but I promise to be a fast learner!
