Picked my GTI up few weeks ago and have been worried about the oil pump chain as its a high miler and have seen them let go, so i replaced the chain, sprocket and tensioner

Old set up, tensioner was almost maxed out!

New tensioner hardly moved once the locking pin was removed, amazing how much slack the old chain had.

Also swapped out the old door handles as they were annoying me

Old

New

Got my refurb'd wheels today, after doing somesaults in my head about the colour, I went for the satin black, and I'm happy with the results. I wanted a siliver lip, perhaps next time.

:happy2: good job!

I'm ticking towards 97k, think this is worth doing? I'll be dropping the sump soon anyway to replace the oil pickup.

Changed the fuel pump cam follower, fuel pump is the older type with banjo bolt which is awkward to get to, and spent 20 minutes looking for said bolt after dropping it onto the lower engine, in the paperwork i've got for the car there's no mention of it ever being changed before. Bit of wear but seen worse

Nice catch, that looks nasty especially as the hardened coating is all gone!
What was the mileage on the car?

Mike.

Could you post your mileage with your post. Those do wear much faster when the coating has gone like that. Mine wear through completely  with the HPFP upgrade within 15k miles. Your next CF should last the same or a bit longer if kept fresh with good oil...but safer to check 10k miles before you double the mileage again.

Was going to put the mileage but wasn't sure if it had been changed before , the cars just done 90k. got stacks of invoices with car covering the last ten years for all sorts but not one mention of the cam follower being replaced

Sounds right for original CF. Anywhere from 80k miles to 120k miles is the range when they can fail completely...so good catch.  They can fail pre-80k or post-120k, but normally the range holds true. :drinking:

Yesterday/today. HPFP install and change the cam loeb. The old one was in perfect condition so it can't have been on long. I changed it anyway.
Also installing revo camcoat, Rev G diverter valve and oil and filter change. Then I will have faith in the engine as I don't know a lot of its history.
