My lovely neighbour parked across my drive and blocked me in, Idiot

now was he just half asleep or is he generally an idiot
2 years ago when the snow was really really bad i spent an hour outside my front window digging a space for my wife to park when she came home.
when i finished i was putting the shovel and stuff back in the garage when someone parked in the space ffs.
its a quite street and nobody really parks directly in front of peoples houses its just that there was piles of snow everywhere.
i asked the guy politelly to please move as i had just dug all that only for him to reply ( where else am i going to park ) i wont print my response to that but needless to say a minute later he was gone

A 100% idiot. I spoke to his dad who said he asked me yesterday if it was ok to park there but i wasnt in all day yesterday. Their own drive has a van on it that only moves during the week and no other cars.

Got impatient when trying to fit my chrome fuel flap switch and have now knackered the grey surround of it!. Door card wasn't budging easily at the bottom, so in frustration I pulled at the card below the switch which prized the plastic away from the switch surround enough for me to lever that up instead. With difficulty I could then pull the old switch out (breaking it in the process) and just about manage to lever the new one in. Anyway when I slipped the surround back into place it doesn't fit neatly. It is sticking up because I think I have stretched the door card plastic next to it when I was pulling at it. It doesn't look awful, but I am pissed at myself for being so hamfisted! I only have myself to blame for trying to rush it 

....Oh dear! Sorry to hear that. I guess it's why I rarely do any DIY on my car.

Cheers. Yeah, I try to do only the easiest things usually because I have limited skill and do tend to lose my patience!

know exactly how you feel, i waited until my car went in the garage for something and got them to put all the chrome switches in for me as i knew i would have prob done the same thing as you have done, are you just gonna leave it as is, its not that bad really but yeah annoying 

I managed to get all the rest of the switches in without too much difficulty, it was just that fuel flap that was a pain. Yeah it doesn't look too bad, but I might try and find something to hold it together a bit better. Tried superglue, but it wasn't strong enough!

very inconsiderate, he might have even parked up a bit so you could at least get a car in and out.

Got the gti mot'ed yesterday and it passed which is always nice so I decided to treat the wife to some osram nightbreakers and polish her dull hadlights. i cant believe the difference it has made to the vision on the road at night. Feel bad that i didn't do it sooner.

Fitted the new wheels, and gave it a good clean.

Got the gti mot'ed yesterday and it passed which is always nice so I decided to treat the wife to some osram nightbreakers and polish her dull hadlights. i cant believe the difference it has made to the vision on the road at night. Feel bad that i didn't do it sooner.

got me thinking, the wifes car is a 2003, have never cleaned the headlights,
what did you use to clean them

I used some 1500 wet and dry to remove the hazing then a da polisher to remove the fine scratches that was left from the paper. Took about 30 minutes.

THEN..... aimed to fit folding and puddle light mirrors to Bert. Got dark early half way through doing the first one.

Lost a bolt from the passenger side down into the door skin.

Just before putting the card back on I rested it on the ground (stood up with all  the plugs back in) while I went to grab a torch to make sure it aligned okay the wind caught it and ripped the window switch connector apart. Destroyed.

And finally killed the battery. Had to get the trusty jump leads out.

Never attempted the drivers.

What do people think of the chrome mk6 switches, might aswell upgrade the lot now?

ouch,,, that was some bad luck there buddy, one after the other as well, maybe you should buy a lottery ticket now as im sure you are due some good luck now 
i replaced all my switches with the chrome ones recently, glad i done it but tbh you just dont notice it, every little helps i guess

....Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but if the edge of the pavement has a dropped kerb section, it officially signifies a vehicular access across the pedestrian pavement and consequently it is illegal for anyone (except an emegency vehicle) to park there.

If you don't have a dropped kerb and your 'drive' is just a paved front garden, you are fook'd - You have no legally supportable rights and can only rely on your neighbour being a good neighbour.

I don't know if it's a Police or a local Council matter. You have photographic evidence. Obviously the first thing to do is to politely ask your neighbour not to park there because you need access 24/7 and hopefully you need not take the matter any further, but don't start off by threatening him - You achieve more with honey than with vinegar.

thats a good point red, dont know about the legal side of it but you could be right there, personally i would have got the dropped kerb extended to the width of the driveway assuming the council would approve it.
one of my neighbours has had it done and i will need to do it as i plan to double the width of my driveway some time in the future.
im hoping the council will agree, fingers crossed.
