Changed the cam follower... good job too as it was looking spent... also new rubber grommets on engine cover and new air inlet screws, which I promptly lost one of as I was putting the cover back on...  :sad1:

If you do not mind me asking, is that a expensive part to replace, and why does it need replacing?

Don't mind at all @wayneitb but you'll find LOADS of info on it on this forum and others. AFAIK the cam follower is "pushed" by the camshaft tappets, which in turn pushes the fuel pump spring. Essentially it's all to do with timing of your fuel / air mix, and because it comes in to contact with your camshaft millions of times in it's life (and with a pretty big whack each time) it's prone to failure. Worst case scenario: f*%k your engine, although unlikely. It's cheap to buy a replacement and quick and easy to fix (even I could manage it, so it must be easy!) so why not? Just make sure everything goes back right, and remember to prime the fuel lines afterwards. I know I shouldn't point out of this forum, but the easiest to follow guide I found was here: http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102858

Good luck
How did she know?

Front tyres (Pirelli P7 Cinturato) after 26k miles/12+ months where down to 2.5mm and loosing a bit of pressure so replaced them with some Goodyear Eagle F1s to match the rears. Way too early to comment on difference but there is a slight increase in road noise but suspect that is due to increase in tread depth.

Changed the front pads and had a quick look under the car whilst it was on the ramp to find the driveshaft bolts had worked themselves loose along with the bolt holding the dogbone mount in. Had to tap a new thread into the gearbox after stripping the original threads :(
