Odd MPG...
« on: March 17, 2009, 12:54:13 pm »
Hi Everyone

I've been looking at a couple of old posts about MPG averages etc, as I'm thinking my GTI is a thirsty beast! Now this may be because the longest journey of my week is about 15 miles to work, but the weird thing is when I first got my car, I seemed to be getting 30mpg average driving... excitedly shall I say... 300 miles could be gotten out of the tank fairly easily, but this has steadily decreased the longer I own the car... Last time I filled the tank up I made sure I drove the whole time without being too heavy on the old accelerating / braking etc, yet I only got 270 miles out of the tank... now it seems to me that the harder I drive my GTI, the better the MPG seems to get... this is surely rather odd?? It's been remapped by the way...

Cheers

Em

This is a shameless plug but I suspect if you get the pcv fix I have for sale (linked below), you should see your mpg increase by a couple of mpg like I did when it was on my car.

I have Revo stage 1... Yeah tyres are checked regularly... I use Total Excellium Petrol every time (97 RON, I know, should be 98 at least!)

From what you guys have said you get though it doesn't seem too bad...

What revo settings are you using, noteably your timing in view of you using 97 ron fuel.

I haven't got a clue  :embarrassed:  My GTI came with the Revo so I don't know much at all about it to be honest... I know the guy said if I didn't use good enough petrol I may as well take the Revo off but that's all I know...   :ashamed:

Dodgy MAFs are a bugger for chewing through fuel, as are boost leaks - you could do with it being scanned.

I get 380-400 miles from a tank B-road commuting a 26mile round trip.
Sideways yo!

No problem!
You really need to get your car logged to see how much timing you are pulling. If it's alot, the beauty of the revo map is that you can lower the timing a notch using either your revo dealer or with a select plus switch without having to flash your ecu with a lower octane map.
