I know you have mods Robin, but your result still makes me think something isn't right with mine. To have to wait until 3k rpm before any real activity isn't right!

When I had my gti it was always 2.5 before u felt any power and 3 when u felt it was on full boost, but I did have a boost leak at the end, I think it was diverter valve have you got any hissing noises or have you ever had your car vag com'd to see if there is any faults

A boost gauge is the only real way to to know  :happy2:

....As soon as you remap a turbo'd car it's the feeling of boost which you experience. As Damo says, a boost gauge is a very reliable way of seeing what's happening.

Nope, had an R32 and then turbo'd it! Admittedly the boost came on earlier in that and I'm aware I shouldn't expect the same, but I'm just surprised at how late it seems to come in on the GTI.

Hoping to get it vagcom'd soon, location and work make it difficult. But I have been hearing hissing noises from the turbo (DV) and they change as the revs increase.

....It's beginning to sound as if you have an OEM DV, not the latest revision, and that the plastic diaphram is failing < Not an uncommon fault but more so on tuned cars. The diaphram splits/tears.

After changing plugs, coils and PCV I had a feeling this was next. Am booking her in to AmD Essex soon for some mods including the Forge DV. In the mean time I'm hopig VRS Carl can make his was over to vagcom her to see if there are any clues hiding!

In most instances, the latest oem version D divertor valve would work just as well as the Forge version with the added bonus of it being cheaper iirc around £40.

Should I not bother going Forge then, will the OEM one cope with mild mods up to stage 2 remaps?
