Wobbly bonnet release
« on: July 04, 2011, 09:46:17 pm »
Hey

Got an 06 gti 2.0T with a wobbly bonnet release and wondered the best way to cure it? I had a little play with the panel to see if i could pop it off but looks like the handle on the release has to come off first.

Any recommendations please because i don't Wana break anything!

Cheers

Matt

Waidaminute, correct me if I'm wrong guys - but isn't the bonnet release handle supposed to be wobbly? As in the first few degrees won't do anything, and you'd need to pull it all the way to release?

That's right - All the bonnet release levers inside below the dashboard are wobbly. It doesn't inspire confidence when using it!

Neither does the bonnet grill catch inspire a lot of confidence as there have been many cases of failure like I had when on an expensive private trackday in Germany. Hence why I now have AeroCatches:

I've had this car for a year and it always was a bit "loose" but not like this, it's virtually hanging off!

It's held on by a small plastic 'C' shaped clip which is normally quite reliable.
