I feel your pain dude  :happy2:
well i should have been jetting off to Sharm el Sheik on the 15th December, but that, errr, got dropped, and is now on hold until i get another time.  Next time im able to go, wont be until June.  Luckily i found out about the pistons before we had settled on a resort, otherwsie i would have lost out on even more cash.

You cant imagine the pain of dealing with my wife when i broke that one to her.

Although i think your car met a more painful demise than mine.  :scared:  id have cried

So are you keeping the Fabia or buying a 4x4 for the Scottish weather?

4x4s are for loosers  :innocent:  FWD with winters are for winners

I wont be selling the fabia straight away, it will be going, just not yet.  I have another busy year out ad about coming up so it might last another 6 months or so yet.

Great news  :pomppomp: I have the car back and its quick, handles very very well and feels lovely and taut.

Bad news  :sad1: There is still a high boost misfire, as a result, were still not even close to pushing the turbo anywhere near its potential.  All plug/coilpack and software solutions have been explored and haven't made a difference.  The next route is to try the valve springs, to see if this is a result of weak springs.  This was a known issue/cure for the 2.0TFSI and 2.0TSI. Hopefully this works and we'll be running a peach of a setup very soon.

Annoying news.:fighting:  New front pads required pretty very soon, which Alex being the good egg that he is, has sourced for me.

This is what the failed piston (No1) looked like when it came out

The hair line cracks when given a bit of a wiggle by the tech's resulted in this bit coming off

Its very lucky they noticed the loss of power when they did, another run on the dyno could have dislodged that piece of piston and trashed the bore and potentially the engine.

The good news is the car not only has very good compression now, but the cylinder compressions are also within 1% of each other.  From what i gather, OEM tolerances of upto 10% is acceptable  :surprised: That would be 19psi difference!!

That isn't a normal failure surely?

The rings are the issue on the 1.4, not the pistons themselves!

No idea.  Its fixed now though.

Not really familiar with broken pistons tbh, so i personally wouldnt know if it was as expected.  Looking at typical images of failed pistons they tend to look alot worse than that.

Did you get any pics of the bore of the cylinder?

You are right though, the damage is bad, but not as bad as being burnt through like I've seen. Probably the strength of the OEM piston for the level of tune, rather than the tune itself.

that was my first thought, how can it be damaged like that with no damage to the bore.  No photos though. The Compression is really high and consistent across the cylinders as well with less than 1% deviation between the highest and lowest readings, so it cant be bad.
