Heavy Vibration when braking

Gents,

Since a couple of weeks ago i have noticed that during periods of heavy braking and when travelling at speeds of 75mph+ there is noticeable vibration felt through the steering wheel. As it is more pronounced when breaking i can only assume that although only 20k miles old (18 months) the brake discs are slightly warped or the wishbone bushes need to be replaced. If the latter, is this a easy job or like the Mk4 wishbone bushes will i require the use of a press?

it could be as simple as wheel balance, check this first before new discs!!

I did think that but after having the front tyres replaced and the wheels balanced it has made no difference.

99.99999% certain it is warped discs. I had this on my last vRS and when i replaced the discs all was spot on.

Check all wheel bolts first though. I know it sounds daft but i have seen people (even garages) not fit wheel bolts correctly afterwards.

Having lost a wheel at speed (very long story) wheel bolts were checked just round the corner from the tyre place, then the following day and 3 days after that..............

In that case i'd go with discs being fercuked

The car was a rep mobile so i don't know what discs are on there but i know they were only replaced about 18 months ago BUT i have never been happy with them. Suppose i need to start looking at options

If only i could justify why i NEED these to the wife.

The brakes will provide better performance therefore possibly preventing an accident which could at the minimum cost you your insurance excess but could be worse.

The hubs are lighter and are unsprung weight. Therefore the car weighs less so will improve fuel economy. Which in turn means more money for shoes, handbags etc

I think i'm going to stay stock for the moment as i may only have the car for another 6 months. GSF are selling Jurid discs for C.£70 a set but i have never heard of them. Research needed i feel.

GSF sell Brembo discs as aftermarket OEM replacements - which are OK.

But their pads are Jurid - and they are shyte.  Yes, I know that Jurid make the genuine VW OEM pads - but they are not the same compound - they are basically very inconsistent - and some GSF jurid pads will squeal like a virgin every time you touch the middle pedal!    I'd never touch GSF pads again.

Another job i haven't yet got round to doing 

In the end i bought some Jurid discs from GSF but have yet to buy the pads.

another vote for discs....

you may aswell change the pads at the same time, but do remember that for the first few hundred miles you'll have sh*te braking as you have to bed everything in!
