Know the feeling. We have a house cat who is going to be spending three weeks in a Pet Hotel later this year while we are in Canada. Not looking forward to it to be honest, the place is amazing but i'm not sure how Issey is going to cope.

Winston barely ever even gets left in the house on his own.  Germany been so dog friendly he comes everywhere with us.
I dont think It's going to effect him, bit worried about him pining and going off his food.

Where  in Canada are you going?  I went to Calgary, Medicine Hat , Skydiving in Alberta and Rock climbing in the Rockies.
Oh and 5weeks on the prarie in -20

Flying into Vancouver then taking the Trans Canadian to Calgary stopping off at Whistler, Salmon Arm and Banff on route. We have friends in Calgary so try and head over there every couple of years and i enjoy every minute if it. They have just moved into a 7 bedroom newbuild and i can't wait to see it!

I was in Calgary Feb 2009 for a couple of weeks attending interviews and for 6 days it was -30 or -40 with windchill. It was NOT warm!

Try to think of it as the dog having a holiday as well. We put ours in luxury boarding for £16 per day when we are away, and she loves it, gets proper pampered. In fact, when we arrive she cant wait to get in. The only thing she doesnt like is the car journey.

Ours is pet passported as well, and would love to be taking her on our 'Ring trip. Maybe next time.

I wouldn't call them 'luxury' kennels but he has a spacious indoor enclosure and one outside where he goes 4 or 4 times a day with a walk in the evening.
Wish I had the time / money to search around for somewhere he would get pampered.  Only 10€ a day here and the old couple know what theyre talking about so...

I was terrified the first time we left our English Bully in kennels, even phoned them when we were away, they said  that the second we went he was fine, and didn't look once to see where we had gone, and that he was having the time of his life.
Just remember, dogs live for the moment, so more than likely he will be interested in all the familiar stuff around him.

I dont think them saying "He hasnt stopped howling, he barks all night, he is off his food, doesnt want to play when he is out the kennel" would have put your mind at rest.

Fact is, dogs dont really like kennels. But we dont really have a choice as dog owners, but to use them. I think of my dog having the time of her life, but the truth is that all the dogs that have a hard time of it and dont stop barking keep her awake all night. When she gets back home, all she does is sleep.
