Deep Scratch in steering wheel - Options. Talk to me!
« on: July 29, 2011, 12:36:58 pm »
Ok this has been driving me nuts since i bought the car. I have a fairly deep scratch on the steering wheel and i want to tidy it up but i don’t know what to use. Is there such a thing as a leather filler and touch up?

Any thoughts

Try a local coachwork company. A retrim may be all you need. Now's your chance for a different shade of leather, or alcantara.

Like that analogy. That is why I keep changing alloys, never had a set refurbed before.

I would take the opportunity to get a MK5 GTI wheel or a MK6 one. :happy2:

I wonder whether Alex's leather repair kit might work on that?

Think i would look for a second hand wheel mate.

I want to keep the car as stock as possible as it is only a hackmobile (have covered nearly 22k in 10 months) so i would need to find exactly the same wheel but have no idea how to replace it.

Alex perkins - a member on here managed to get hold of a leather repair kit for the leather bit of the edition 30 car seats. It could potentially work on the steering wheel. Worth PMing him.

Ah was just seeing if you were local. I know I took off my gt tdi wheel to swap for a gti one and it's in my loft. From what I remember it was more a dark grey colour and I can't be sure it was leather. If your ever passing you can have it!

The leather repair kit might work, but its hard to say if it'll last due to the use and grease etc that gets onto the steering wheel. Worth a pop though in any case!
