My latest m.o.t

Well that time of year again, I think alls well with my motor for passing its m.o.t, if anything occurs with the car it gets sorted, so shouldn't have any problem passing ???
The mechanic counts the wheels, lifts the bonnet (checking it has an engine !!) looks up at me then passes this comment " shall I sign the pass certificate now ??? ". He knows me so knows the car will be in good shape, over the pit it goes checking my milltek out, out of the pit he asks me if the washer and wipers have a problem ?? I came home from work last night with the wipers working hard I replied, why I asked ? Only there not working !! I was baffled !! Don't worry he said it's gonna be a fuse !! He finished the m.o.t and started to look for and check fuses, under the bonnet all the fuses look ok, next more checked in the cockpit, alls well with them all !!! Head scratching now begins as he asks one of his colleagues if he had any ideas, check if power is reaching everything ?? the light kept lighting up on his tool so power supply all in good order !!!! Right we will book your car in next week and have to fail the test today  :sad1:
As the fail certificate is passed over to me I'm not a happy bunny, then the tester came back over to me with the key in his hand and made my day.... You'd better give me back the fail ticket !!! His face was a picture as he told me that the car had actually passed !!! He was so embarrassed as he explained that the wipers and washer don't work with the bonnet up !!!
I left the garage happy, and the tester getting ribbed by all the guys in the garage

I remember doing that trying to get them into the the service position so I could lift them and wash the car but they wouldn't budge, I proper started panicking, shut the bonnet properly and tried again and found they worked lol

I bet the MOT tester wont live this down for quite some time now  :signLOL:

When you turn off the ignition, leave the key in then pull the wiper stalk down.
Without traction power is nothing!

Cheers for that. Will come in handy when I'm cleaning the car and obviously when I need to change the wiper blades.

Ha thats good! I never new it had a service position. I just thought you had to struggle (like i did) to get the wipers on and off when putting on new ones.. i feel silly now  :signLOL:

You don't have to leave the key in. I turn off the engine, take the key out and then press the stalk down. Don't like leaving the key in the car when I'm washing it.

As Stealth says you don't need to leave the key in.
Just turn the car off, take the key out and press down on the wiper stalk. :happy2:

Maybe it's one of my car's idiosyncracies but if I remove the key before depressing the stalk, the wipers don't move. For me, leave the key in, depress the stalk > service position then remove the key.
Without traction power is nothing!
