ESP light on
« on: August 16, 2011, 09:23:52 pm »
Hi,

(Yes I will get some pics of the new GTI up soon. Promise)

I noticed today that the yellow, swerving car, ESP light is on constantly on the dash. What does this mean.

Is it safe to drive, is there a fault?

Many thanks in advance.

C

Could be a bad abs sensor but you need a vcds scan to help you troubleshoot.

Is it safe to drive. I just picked the car up on Saturday.

I started the engine and the ESP light on speedo stayed on. I then tried pressing the ESP button down into front of the gear box and no light came on.

UPDATE. Car is under a VW Gold warranty. Apparently it is problem with ECU. Getting fixed next week. There was mention of a Brake Pressure Sensor

Bugger. From what I have read so far that is quite costly.

I think there is a genuine repair kit out for this now as its such a common fault.

about £140 ish

Common, common fault as other have said (not just with Golfs). VW did mine at a vastly reduced rate under goodwill. See the thread here for more details:

Is this likely to happen more than once?

Just dropped off the GTI to be fixed and now have a lovely 1.4 KIA C'eed. Already have blisters from the sandpaper steering wheel lol...I want my GTI back!  :sad1:
