Just my 2p's worth here and please don't take offence!

If the car he is looking at hasn't had the belt changed then I'd walk away, if the owner has been advised it needs to be done but chosen not too then I'd be worried about what else the owner has cut costs on? It's mega important part!

I agree with this.

Vw recommend that the timing belt is changed every 4 years or 40,000 miles
so this one is overdue, some ppl will say not untill 120,000 ( thats what a dealer had tryed to tell my wife)  :scared: but because she had a golf b4, she checked and was told the above,
If u dont change the belt u run the risk of the belt snapping and basically f**king the whole engine

the mileage bit seems to be debatable, certainly no more than 60k. However what isn't up for debate is 4 years.  :happy2:

Thanks @Tfsi_Mike

Noticed in log book that timing belt was changed by VW but no note on whether the water pump was.

I know the stealers i bought mine from only changed the cambelt  :stupid: When i found out about this i rang them to tell them that part of the condition of sale was cambelt AND water pump. They protested that there was nothing wrong with the water pump, i said that wasn't the point in 2 years time the water pump would be due for change but the belt wouldn't and then 2 years after that the belt would be due for a change and the pump wouldn't so just stick to what was agreed at sale and change the pump if you are an honorable VW Dealer - they relented and it's booked in for next Tuesday

Simple answer: change the water pump when changing the cambelt regardless  :happy2:
