Have you considered adding a tinted film to the rear windows? Can go all the to 100% blackout if you want - only the fronts need to let in 75%.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

OK, the early Mk5 GTIs and R32s had a blue tint (PR: 4KQ) - this was before the privacy glass appeared on the options list.  From 2007ish, the blue tint was droped and all Mk5s (even the poverty spec ones) had/have green tinted windows (PR: 4KC).  The privacy glass is merely a 'black on green' if that makes sense.  (PR: 4KF)

Part numbers & ETKA prices:

Heated rear screen
1K6 845 051 K - green tint - £147
1K6 845 051 L - GTI/R32 blue tint - £184
1K6 845 051 P - green/black privacy tint - £179

3-door rear side window - left
1K6 845 041 K or Q - green tint - £67.20
1K6 845 041 L or R - GTI/R32 blue tint - £89.30
1K6 845 041 M or S - green/black privacy tint - £83.50

3-door rear side window - right
1K6 845 042 K or Q - green tint - £67.20
1K6 845 042 L or R - GTI/R32 blue tint - £89.30
1K6 845 042 M or S - green/black privacy tint - £83.50

5-door rear side door window - left
1K6 845 025 B - green tint - £26.80
1K6 845 025 C - GTI/R32 blue tint - £45.15
1K6 845 025 D - green/black privacy tint - £42.05

5-door rear side door window - right
1K6 845 026 B - green tint - £26.80
1K6 845 026 C - GTI/R32 blue tint - £45.15
1K6 845 026 D - green/black privacy tint - £42.05

5-door rear non-opening ¼ window - left
1K6 845 215 - green tint - £16.30
1K6 845 215 A - GTI/R32 blue tint - £22.30
1K6 845 215 B - green/black privacy tint - £22.30

5-door rear non-opening ¼ window - right
1K6 845 216 - green tint - £16.30
1K6 845 216 A - GTI/R32 blue tint - £22.30
1K6 845 216 B - green/black privacy tint - £22.30

Note: for the rear sides on the three door, the first final letter of the part number is upto VIN 1K*7*120000, and the second is from VIN 1K*7*120001

no offence or anything mate but they look stupid with tinted windows, you can see a white line around the dot matrix from about 97 miles away.

Not if it's done properly. The glass is going to be expensive and the cost of fitting etc wouldn't make sense to most. Adding a light tint on the back windows would be the best bet, most people won't be able to tell the difference.

The blue glass was dropped in 2006 but it remained on the R32 unless it was specced with privacy glass, then the glass was green.

i had my fiesta windows tinted by farious companys including one that said they was the best in the uk and looked wank each time

also the glass isnt the same colour around the frame,

with a light tint u cant tell no but thats no what i am after

i personally think there is a huge differance and priv glass is much much nicer. and 700 quid is a lot (thats the cost with fitting) but if somthing is worth doing may as well do it properly.

I checked this out must be a year ago now, they quoted me £76 per side window and £146 for the rear. then fitment (auto glass quoted around £100 ), tiny bit more than the film, but I'd rather this than film as I've seen a fair few MK5's with the white lines on the rear window and it looks terrible.

Mine has the factory tint & they do look better than the after market ones. Noticed it at the Harewood show last sunday.

The white dot matrix you see is from a poor quality window film and poor preparation.

I can guarantee with a decent job you wouldnt be able to tell the difference.
