Remap - What should it feel like ?
« on: March 30, 2009, 06:29:37 pm »
Hi
Excuse my ignorance on this topic, but I've just remapped my car (Superchips, Bluefin) and I'm in two minds on the results.

So I thought I'd ask the question, what should I be looking for ?

I think I was all excited and expected a massive change with harsh accelleration and a bit of a rough ride.  Instead I seem to have a smoother car, which has lost some of its excitement, almost feels like it's holding back now ??

Once more, thanks for your advice and comments in advance !

the SC remap retains the OEM "flat torque" curve i think...so u won't feel a sudden rush of boost or anything.

it'll be like standard, but the speed will increase that wee bit faster without u knowing.

some like it that way, some don't.

I'll take it out for a test tomorrow morning.  I'm sure with a new exhaust, sports cat and a stage 2, I'll be happy.

there are several SC maps....
if you are in any doubt then i would suggest its not right, or you have a low power map !
Its around +50bhp for most ed30 remaps
You need to get to a good dyno place and get it checked over for fault codes/decent boost levels/no excessive ign retard etc
You could always switch back to std and compare of course......
Either way you need to know so can choose to keep it or ask for another version of the map or fix a possible issue.

Best to give SC a ring and confirm which map you have imo mate

It also needs about 50-75 miles before it initially settles ... but should still be very, very noticeable !

Is your car DSG ?  The old DSG map was very like the original until 4K revs and also until it had done a few miles .... then it went mad at higher revs

There was no doubting the newer DSG map, though, which is like the manual one and alot more powerful everywhere .....

Nope my car's manual, but I was under the impression that SC maps now covered both vehicles.  They definately didn't ask me if my car was DSG or Manual.

They'll be able to tell from the chassis number or something I'd imagine what transmission it has?

Mine's abso-fricking-lutely manic, having just been stage 2'd and given a 3" downpipe. I'm ever so slightly scared of it...

They are the same map now.

SC took away the torque limiter from the ECU for DSG boxes which was on only difference. (Lower torque to protect DSG box)

They know reckon DSG can take the extra. :happy2:

am running a custom MRC Tuning map.

i can only describe the difference as staggering, the car is lightning and need alot more space to actually put my foot down propperly.

is like driving a different car compared to stock. my car was running pretty lame as stock (195bhp) now the fuel mixture isnt rich any more it is hugely noticable. probably a bit like the difference between driving a GT sport vs a stock GTI.

if your unhappy with your map and arnt too far away from the M40 i would highly reccomend you go to MRC Tuning. £500 for a fully custom map that they adjust as your driving, they spent 3 hours with my car to get it just right.

am really really happy with it, so much so that i want to upgrade my brakes right away lol

I'll vouch for that one...
Was really impressed with the way your car went, handled, braked and looked at  Curborough
So much that I am now contemplating the stage 2 work and a custom map myself...Even though I got it for my  wife!!
I had a quick look on milltek and they only looked to have a 2.75" downpipe.
Where did you get yours from?and how much was it  if yiou don,t mind..

Thanks Monk, the car felt fantastic on track and my times go to show what a MKV chassis/engine is capable of - I'd like to say it was my driving, but I'd possibly be lying

My DP isn't listed on the website, it was a bit of a special request - I'll PM you the details.
