It's a function of most DSG gearboxes (although my diseasel never had it)

You have to get the engine & gearbox up to operating temps (won't work from cold) and then turn of TC, Put car into sport, foot on brake, press accelerator (but not to the point you press the kickdown button) engine will rev to circa 3200rpm (varies on diff cars) and then you just sidestep the brake and hold on.

To be honest though imo it's a gimmick you use once and you can get a better launch by just doing it yourself and short shifting to 2nd. I used it once and certainly won't use it again.

REVO Launch control i believe is different though

It will be ablet to add it to the manual too, if you know what you are doing (and have the right tools)...

BFT (Big Fish Tuning) have done it to a mk4 Ibiza Cupra that I know....

I've tried it a few times, mainly when people start asking about the DSG box and I mention it.  Was asked to demo it a couple of weeks ago but didn't as only had some new tyres fitted a few months ago!

Get a wot box.  Allows full throttle gear changes and programmable launch control.

Alternatively we do a racelogic traction control unit that comes with launch control.  Works with the canbus too.

? I thought the idea was the optimise the cars peak performance and lay it down....including the traction? does it shred the tyres then?

Doesn't shred the tyres but you do get a fair bit of wheel spin, well I have done anyway!

I've driven lots of DSG cars at work (vw) and my ed30 DSG has been the only one I've seen it on, part from the other DSG gti's etc etc

I love the thing  :signLOL: you spin at 1st but once it's over you'll be gone  :signLOL:
Doesn't really harm the box, we've tried it a few times and tested temps/fault codes and nothing was visible....but obviously there's only so much abuse a drive shaft can take  :popcornsoda:

I have wrote a med9 launch control map for my mates manual box  ed30 and a racing k1 cup car. It works the same the same way as my me7 1.8t launch where it limits the rpm until the cars rolling speed is at 18mph. Check it out on YouTube r-tech launch control.   I have not done much testing with the 2.0 tfsi launch control as yet, but so far it's working pretty well.

It's the clutch packs in the box that will take a hammering, they have a rated life given a certain amount
of energy displacement through them. (RPM differential / shift time)
High energy shifts would certainly reduce their life but whether its enough to be noticable is any ones guess!

i find it just a gimmick really!
i tried it to see what all the fuss was about and all i got was loads of wheelspin!
find you get a better launch just putting it into 'S' and taking off urself
