would this work?

i have have asked a few times about how to "black" the rear VW emblem and had lots of advice either to spray it or wrap it.  well, i bought some carbon 3M stuff, the one with texture...looks great.  i am wondering if it would look ok if i wrapped not just the emblem but the background where inserts might go?  anyone got any photos of such a thing?  i could just do it, but am plucking up the courage!

I wrapped the entire background on my boot and just got the holes out for the badge to fit in over the top. Or do you mean carbon wrapped badge on carbon wrapped background?

yeah, i think i mean the whole badge...the silver VW emblem and the gaps in between that is the rear mount...does that make sense?

That would look good if you manage to get it on properly although it sounds like a hard thing to get right, so you can still see the vw emblem....

I am wondering if using a hairdryer would allow me to manipulate it into all the corners and edges. Might be a job too far for my first wrap...not sure even if my emblem comes away from the background yet as that would make it easier. Any tips appreciated.

I've just started doing my rear badge. I was'nt brave enough to remove it straight off the boot handle incase I broke it lol. First I had to move the wiper motor out the way. I then removed the 3 bolts from the boot handle and pulled it out , easy. Then I prized away the badge being real carefull not to break it.
I then cleaned the boot handle and wraped it. I'm just in the process of spraying the badge now  :happy2:

am liking the photos...work for people like me!  so...is there no mechanical stuff to disconect from the rear of the badge/handle?  what year is your car as i am interested to know if the rear of your emblem is curved or flat?  how will you reconnect the emblem to the handle?  your bravery is inspiring me to have a go this weekend, seeing as i have bottled it on smoking my rear lights...for now anyway!

Trust me i'm no mechanic. My car is on an 08 plate with a flat back badge. There really is no mechanical stuff at all. Just remove the 2 screws holding the plastic tray to the boot. Then remove the 3 bolts holding the washer motor in place and move it slightly out the way carefully. Then unclip the wires from the boot handle and undo the 3 torx screws holding the handle in place.Then it just pops out.
With the blunt side of a knife i just worked around the edge of the badge and poped it off the boot handle. It's attatched to the boot handle with small clips.
 You can then spray or do what ever design you want to the handle or badge. Im just waiting for the paint to dry on my badge now so I can fix it back on. I will post up a proper 'how to' in the guides section of forum when i'm done.

This is my badge just after spraying. I went to Halfrauds and bought some black perlecant paint to match the car  :wink:

smashing...instructions...i do instructions.  ok...i am going to have a crack at this.  was hoping maybe this weekend but extended family stuff might have put paid to that...we'll see.  thanks again  :happy2:
