ESP Light permanently on :S
« on: September 18, 2011, 11:37:26 pm »
Driving home today and the ESP light came on and stayed on... turned the engine off, back on and the light remained on?

The cars a 1.6 FSI 2006, 28k on the clock

Anyone got any ideas?

Any other strange behaviour? Might be the MAF sensor.

Cheers for that mate...

Apparently its a VERY common fault with mk5's, a fault that VW are all to very familiar with!

It's to do with a ABS/brake pump sensor and costs £1500 to rectify! VW will only cover it under warranty, but will offer a "good will service" which comes with its own terms and conditions..

apparently theres thousands of mk5's with this sort of problem, mostly on 1.6's..

Cheers Richwig83  :happy2:

I got it scanned today, and it confirmed the worst... fault code - 01435 (G201) sensor - which is the ABS brake pump sensor module...

Even tho VW are fully aware of this problem, they're very reluctant to help.. some dealerships worse than others...

If your cars under warranty not a problem..
if its out of warranty they will offer a 'good will offer' of between 25 - 50% only if you're cars been serviced at VW?

The faulty part is non-servicable so i dont see what the service history has got to do with it? It's a fault with the braking system, that VW are aware of, even mentioned in the Gaurdian newspaper and yet they're still so reluctant to do anything..

the new repair kit is £600

buy another pump of ebay, it is easier and cheaper than buying the repair kit which requires you to dismantle the pump

I changed my pump for a different reason and it is fairly easy to do

btw is your pump a Mk60 or Mk60EC1
