Can anyone close to their Edition 30 do me a favour please!
« on: September 20, 2011, 10:09:22 am »
I'm in a bit of a wrangle with the local vw dealer at the minute.
I was just wondering if anyone could do me a favour please and start their engine and take the dipstick out and see if theres a vacuum please?
I'm sure theres supposed to be due to the pcv system, but they saying there isnt, and something is broken in the bottom end
Thanks in advance for anyone willing to help :happy2:

When you remove the dipstick the tone of the engine changes, if it doesn't change the PCV is shot.

I fully understand that, what they are saying is, is that theres too much pressure in the bottom end of the engine, and there is a vacuum when the dipstick is removed which can be felt when you put your hand over the dipstick pipe. I'm sure that this is down to the vacuum created by the PCV system, but they said they tried it on another GTi, and there was no vacuum.
My argument is that they charged me £1370 for a turbo that they said I needed fitting, when the car still has the same issues afterwards, so I didnt even need that turbo fitting, and I'm trying to find out what the problem is

If I were you I'd go to another dealer.  Wouldn't trust them with a wheel barrow going by what you've said so far.

I'm lead to believe that the engine tone should change when you remove the dipstick. It runs funny like it's misfiring, if you put your finger over the dipstick tube the idle returns to normal. There is defo a vacuum there mate. *confused.com*

Dom, use another dealers. Had a car in today  (mk4 golf 1.9) that had been to them for 3 DAYS to diagnose a boost fault (would cut out all boost under load at 3600 rpm)

Did a quick run up the road to datalog and at the split second before it hit 2000mb the map sensor signal would go flat and then immediately into limp mode. Removed map sensor from the intake pipe and connected it to my hand pump and watched the live data from OBD port, gave it 2500mb and same happened, would only read 1980mb.

£12 later and a new map sensor = fixed.

Dealer had spent 3 days with it and diagnosed a new turbo was required, fitted cost £1240  :signLOL: thats an oversight of around 1000%. they had charged him £240 for this diagnosis, he is going back to them to attempt a refund.
