Rear Emblem/Handle Colour Coding!
« on: September 24, 2011, 01:46:40 pm »
After much thinking...I decided to colour code my rear VW emblem/handle.  Thought about having the VW black, but thought it too stark...or I could have left it chrome...but thought I would go Reflex Silver.  Big job for me as I haven't sprayed anything for over 25 years and that was a Raleigh Burner BMX (oldies will remember them!).

Second base coat has just gone on then a couple of laquer...might even get it back on the car tonight...photos to follow.

all done...pretty chuffed with my spraying talents to be honest   anyway...what you think?...i know the car is filthy and that it will look better when the lower bumper/valance is done professionally.

Before...

and a few during the process...thought my solution for a good mask worked brilliantly.

And after...

hmmm...i just think it looks a little stark, black against silver...kind of wanted it to blend in.  i am 50/50 with it at the moment.  i am thinking that it will be more like it when the other parts are painted up.

^^^  :happy2:  actually think i am liking it more.  almost like de-locking without all the metal work!  haven't seen any others done like this on a car that isnt black...maybe there's a reason!

Good match to be fair spraying it yourself.  :happy2:
Im 50/50 on it, think may look better with the insert done black so the VW stays colour coded so only a little black on there. But maybe photoshop it first as not 100% sure it would look better haha.

Might do a little PhotoShop...masking out the vw bit mite be tricky I'd I were to attempt it.  I guess its a bit of a marmite thing for some folk.

Yes, I have lacquered it. The vw paint kit was really good to be honest.

the vw logo pops off i believe on that badge as its 3d version like mine. I took mine off to spray black. Unsure on mine as may colour code it.

what about if you do the backing in a dark silver or light grey so there is a very slight contrast

Yeah, I like the idea of the badge matching the bodywork's colour but wasn't to keen on having the background black as it will be too much of a contrast, so a dark silver could be the key.  I look forward to seeing your results and then teefing the idea for myself, wah ha ha!
