My name is Carl not Stu :P

I haven't got much experience with 3XXX firmwares but I believe the 39XX firmwares do.

Sorry I think I have done this before!  its the VRS bit and my brain being somewhat special and dyslexic  :rolleye:

Hi Guys,

Just a little update to let you know how I got on with Firmware 1300 (2800) on my RNS-510, at first I was a little worried as when I switched it on it loaded in a German location but the map wasn't even moving while driving. I contemplated going straight back to 2760 but thought I would give it a bit of time to see if anything happened and thankfully it did, although it is still very early days I can 100% say the unit is getting a GPS lock 50% quicker than it did before on the older firmware.

I understand I need to wait and see if this faster speed is consistent but as of now I am pleased, I haven't tried VIM as yet but if this is still active then I will a happy bunny.

Just out of interest what is the latest firmware, what are the key benefits over 1300 (2800) and what is POI support?

Nick

You have the latest firmware the only difference any of the others have over 1300 is voice control. The 3XXX series firwares are still Beta's although the 397X firwares are very stable. However unless you have a B revision or higher unit then you can't use them and in all honesty i wouldn't bother as they don't bring anything majorly different to the party apart from a new splash screen and repartitioning of the drive into 3 sections

POI support is for people who modify the map discs and add there own POI's (Speed Camera's, Shell garages etc)

The major benefit that the 3xxx series gives you is being able to upload POIs from a SD card rather than having to burn a new map cd every time you want to update them  :happy2:

Sorry for restarting this thread but thought it was better than starting a new one.

Could anyone recommen a firmware version for a HW11 Version B RNS-510. I'm currently on 1100 due to an old gateway but I'm about to swap this over to a new one.

I think I'm running 2710.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Stealth you will be running 2720

Pazz - the best one for you would be 2764 which is linked in the Firmware turtorial in the Satnav section :happy2:

I remember it being 27x0 but couldn't recall if it was 2710 or 2720.

Thanks Carl.

I hear people suggest burning to DVD's only. Any particular other suggestions? Perhaps brand of DVD?

I use Verbatim but you need to get the right sort.

It really does depend on the Nav unit.

I've come across Nav units that will accept either, some that will only accept DVD and some that will only accept CD.

DVD-R generally works fine. Verbatim discs are usually problem free but i've used Tesco/Asda ones before and they have worked fine as well.

Just make sure you burn it as slow as possible, verify it afterwards and all should be ok :happy2:

Just FYI any of you that experience this, I still do to this day despite upgrading several firmware versions. I'm currently running 2720 to my knowledge after a visit to Stu  :happy2:

I've simply learnt to live with it  I'm either still getting it because I'm terribly unlucky, or I've permanently had a faulty RNS unit or even antenna(?). Either way, I've not pursued it any further.

Don't be surprised though for it to still affect you once changing firmware/map versions if your unit's anything like mine  :stupid:  :rolleye:

I had that on mine before i went to 3984.

Honestly there is no difference between 276X and 284X  :happy2:

Yup i get it now with a factory roof antenna and an LED RNS on 3984. But it goes within at most 10 secs.
