Noisy until warm?????
« on: September 29, 2011, 10:28:20 pm »
Hey Everyone,

I've notice when driving the 2.0 SDi lately that the engine sounds classically Diesel like sounding at first then when it's nice and warm it quieten downs quite considerably?

When I say Classically Diesel like I mean very LOUD, we tend to consider modern diesels to be fairly quiet, if not more quiet than petrols in some cases.

It's a 2004 and done just over 60k, with new oil / service being done only a month 500 miles ago.

Thoughts? or just how they are?

Most cars are louder and drive 'rougher' before they reach optimum temperature. It tries to get the engine warm as quick as possible. You should hear an M5 V10 for the first 5 minutes

It's the new CR diesels which are quieter, unfortunately the 2.0 SDI is not CR.

Logical enough but it just seem too bugger difference to be normal, hence the ask on here.

I had an M5 in a month back, your right it sounded like a bag if nails but then just burbed afterwards.

I also had an unregistered Octavia in on Monday and I had to double check it was actually running, it was like a bloody hybrid.

It must be mainly as I've just got rid of a big engined C class Merc and that was really quiet.

I'll try take note of how long it's loud for next time and at what temp it gets quiet.

How I would love to wake up to this sound every day!
